Kinda, sorta. One branch of my family belong to the LDS (and are pretty serious about it), so I had cause in my younger days to learn about the nonsense believed by the members of Joe Smith’s cult.

On the drive up there, she asked me, “What do Mormons believe?” I gave her the Cliff’s notes version – Moroni, gold plates, seer stones, etc. She said, “Just how stupid do you think I am – quit making stuff up!” I insisted that I wasn’t making anything up.

We took a couple of extra days and saw Temple Square, caught a recital at the Tabernacle and went to see the Great Salt Lake. After visiting Temple Square and the Visitor’s Center, she said, “You weren’t making that stuff up!”

I said, “Nope. I don’t have that vivid an imagination.”

I’ve maintained for a long time that Utah would be a wonderful place to live if it weren’t the Mother Ship of the LDS.
