KYNet (Kentucky’s install of the ACA) was very popular. Yet Kentucky voters voted out their Dem governor and voted in Bevin who promisted to eliminate.
Don’t know if you read Josh’s “Dissent from Judis’ Dissent” but I fall squarely on John Judis’ side in the debate. Voters consistently vote against their own best interest; and often in spectacular ways.
I know this is a $10 trillion question, but WHY!
What is it that prevents them from looking out for UNO?

Sing about the sting on the way to your polling station in 2018 you bunch of trumpanzees.
Are you assuming that Trump gives a shit about his voters? Why should he? They’re apparently too stupid to give a shit about themselves. Oh, they’ll give a shit when stuff starts hitting the fan, but they’ll never understand that their heroic Hair Furor is the one that stiffed them. Hair Furor and his merry band of sycophants and enablers will blame Obama, and the idiots who keep voting for them will believe it. After all, if they don’t understand yet that ACA = Obamacare, or that KyNet = Obamacare, etc., they’ll never get it. They’re clueless and, apparently, perfectly happy with their delusions.
I really don’t want to see people suffer, but I don’t see any way of avoiding it, or at least alleviating their suffering, until/if we can get Dems back in control. The Trump and Republican bullshit machines are effective. Until the Dems can consistently communicate more effectively than Trump and his gang of sociopaths, and win elections, people are going to continue getting hurt. And die. And probably die horribly. These next few election cycles are going to be critical if we’re ever going to get our country back. It’s already bruised and battered. The longer Trump and his cronies control it, the deeper will be the damage, and the more difficult will be the course of correction.
Yes, there is. It’s infuriating how stupid many Americans are.
An Associated Press analysis of new figures from the government found that 7.3 million of the 8.8 million consumers signed up so far for next year come from states Trump won in the 2016 presidential election. The four states with the highest number of sign-ups — Florida, Texas, North Carolina and Georgia, accounting for nearly 3.9 million customers — were all Trump states.
I know they’ll enjoy that lump of “clean” coal in their stockings
Well, so, you know, I deeply regret the real, lasting damage that this will do to many people’s lives, but there’s nothing like a little suffering to drive home the consequences of electing a Lying Orange Urine-Stain to be our President. Sometimes suffering becomes education, and even, possibly enlightenment. Or, they could just blame Hillary Clinton.
I know the feeling. You want the stupids to personally suffer because they were stupid on so many levels. They voted for him even though during his campaign talked about “repeal and replace” 68 times but they remained ever hopeful and esp. in some the states he carried by the most votes. Fox will inform them and they’ll believe it that some Barack Obama had something to do with they’ll be losing. “Obama made trumpp do it!” or something like it.
The out-of-work coal miners to whom he promised jobs, jobs, jobs will be surprised to learn that he’s trying to rollback black lung disease health coverage.
Oh wow! He’s lumping all of his voters in to one huge piece of coal!
I hate to diss working men and women who do work we’d never do and which is being made obsolete by new technology, but they put their faith in a rich, privileged conman who didn’t mean a word he said but used them like them so much scenery for his speeches.
Indeed he did! Its very sad, because black lung disease is no joke! During the campaign, I recalled hearing a lady who lived in West Virginia or Kentucky and she had warned people that if Donald Trump got voted that it was likely the black lung insurance would fade away.
But you know, all of us are going to feel the brunt of this new tax scheme, he signed yesterday. How on earth can they think reducing one’s payroll taxes is the same as a wage increase? All of then have got to be orbiting on another fucking planet! Seeing an extra few bucks when their increases are more than 10-fold, is simply sinful, in my book, Not to mention, that we and our children and their children’s children will be paying for this bullshit! Its truly sickening!
I really have come to agree w/ those who posit that they ARE “looking out for UNO”, only in another–non-economic–way. It’s largely cultural identification, for lack of a better term. There’s a post somewhere, which of course evaporated as soon as I tried to Google it, that posited an idea along the lines of “those who feel threatened by the potential loss of white (and male, and Christian(ist), and cis-heterosexual, etc.) supremacy”. The longer I’ve thought about it, the more accurate I’m deciding it is.
And if the repubs have their way they’d replace public education with Charter Schools which get federal dollars now but don’t have to play by the same rules as public schools (non union, fuck FERPA, 504 and IEPs etc.), they work their staff to death and use public humiliation as a way to control the children. And where are most of these nightmare Charter schools? Where the poor live. The repubs have done a great job of dumbing down poor, (mostly) white people, but they need to dumb down poor minorities too or else they fade away forever. Charter schools is the perfect weapon for that problem of theirs.
And all insurance policies benefit from the consumer protections built into ACA. These changes were huge for group plans as well. Everyone with insurance is on Obamacare.
This. The AP article is only talking about individual enrollments, and only on the federal exchange, which mostly serves red states. More egregious than usual.
Gotta hope they all vote their O’Care!
