Discussion: Mnuchin: I’m Not Involved With Treasury Probe Into Michael Cohen's SARs

Was this a leak warning the public of inappropriate coverup activity, or was it a leak warning the subjects of the investigation? (Since many US companies participated in the suspicious activity, I lean toward the former…)

He might not have actually blocked the SARS but did he say he didn’t have knowledge of the SARS being blocked? Did he order the blockage?

Not Involved With Treasury Probe Into Michael Cohen’s SARs

Glad to hear it (if true)! It’s never a good scene when the person doing the cover up is also the one doing the investigation.

How does “…FinCEN does have a long-standing policy of accommodating the enforcement agencies…” equate with deliberately blocking enforcement agencies from blocking the SARS?

Doesn’t. And…the SARs weren’t blocked. They were purged.

There was no security clearance block. They were made to vanish.

Keep lying buddy because you’re gonna look so good in that orange jumpsuit!

Valid questions, but don’t let him frame this as the SARs having been blocked. They weren’t blocked. They were destroyed.

“I can assure you that they are doing a thorough review because this system of SARs is absolutely critical to our entire FinCEN effort to block Mueller’s investigation and we need to make sure that it is we are in no way at risk.”

How do you know they were destroyed?

both the technology issues, the issues around logging

Is he saying that the records or logs about who made the SARs inaccessible and when they did it are missing? And they want to blame a computer glitch?

ETA: They learned from “lordy I hope there are tapes” to try to hide their tracks. If they did that, it shows they knew what they were doing was wrong.

Public-interest groups and a handful of Democratic lawmakers have been pushing Mnuchin to recuse himself from any matters linked to Russia’s 2016 election interference because he served as finance chair of Trump’s campaign.

Isn’t the finance chair a guy who deals with money? Knows where it’s coming from and where it’s being paid out? Is Mnuchin like a dumb Maurice Stans? I bet with all this talk of illegal campaign money lately, Mr. Mnuchin has been a bit distracted. Has he talked with Mueller yet? If so, did he make a deal? If not, is he a subject or target?

Because they were no longer in the database. They weren’t protected by clearance level; they were just gone. That’s digital destruction.

And that’s why I’ve been pointing to Mnuchin all this time. No way did that happen without him being involved.

With any other treasury secretary, a claim that he knows nothing about how his department operates would be difficult to believe.

Cui bono? Mnuchin has both means, motive and opportunity. Hard to see him wiggle out of this one.

Flaccid bespectacled penis sez what?

Somehow, “I’m not involved,” seems to translate as, “I’m only a Mninion, with plausible deniability, don’t prosecute or my wife will kill another Dalmatian.”

Not only means and motive, but there’s just no way this could be carried out without his cooperation. At minimum, the complete erasure of a digital trail would require confidence that no higher ups would act on suspicious hacking activity. And a partial (failed) erasure would have been far worse than doing nothing.

He’s busted and he knows it.
