Discussion: Missouri Rep.: I Have 'No Confidence' In Ferguson Police Investigation

It is hard to believe that the state of Missouri, where I was born and raised, has any interest in doing anything with this incident, other than quieting it down so they can do “business as usual”. From what I read, this “business as usual” is the norm throughout most of our country. We should all be ashamed by that.

Do you really believe that our police always have the right to kill someone if that person doesn’t respond to the police exactly as they want? If they don’t have that right, and they most certainly don’t, then when they do kill someone they are committing a murder, and should themselves be arrested and tried for that crime. We should never accept having a police state.

Great anecdote. It’s amazing how often people surprise me this way. I was at a little neighborhood jazz concert in Philly four years ago and one of the acts was an avant-garde jazz collective, all white guys, and this young black guy came up to the stage after their set and started talking to the leader. He looked all streetwise and everything as far as dress and such, and you’d have assumed he mostly listened to hip-hop, but his eyes were just glowing with interest and enthusiasm, and he said he had a web-based jazz interview program that he really wanted them to be on. Never assume! I learn that over and over again. People really, really will surprise you.

A bore and a boor.

And I might add boar.

I’m really sorry to hear that. I used to spend summers in St. Louis when I was in my early teens, and have fond memories of it. Granted, I was a clueless kid, and my aunt and uncle lived in a very nice affluent white neighborhood, so what the hell did I know? But sadly, I think you’re right about the business as usual norm.

An even better story. Thanks.

Clay is my congressman, he right to doubt the local crooks. Mayor Slay come to my church this morning with an update, even a cynic like me was impressed with his resolve. The international black-eye this has given us as well as the BS “incident” will turn the wheels of justice, albeit possibly slowly. As a side note he informed US of the date of the funeral as well as city support for the family. A sad affair all around and few bright spots. St. Louis is my town and always will be, but unfortunately it still fights the civil war in some corners. What’s new in America?

Not a single thing you throw out there in your post is relevant. And that is on top of the veracity of some of your claims being dubious at best (and the being charitable). I don’t care if Brown be a the store clerk senseless (which he didn’t do) or rescue a kitten from a tree right before the cop executed him in the street for jaywalking.

That is the ONLY salient point. The cop executed a black 18 year old for jaywalking.

The rest of your attempt to throw sand in the eyes of the public is exactly why Jackson, the head of the Ferguson police, released the video on Friday. In hopes that fools will take the bait and blame the victim for being executed for jaywalking.

Perhaps it will prompt Clay to rethink how he votes in Congress, like voting against Grayson’s amendment that would halt suppling military gear to local police forces next time.

Nobody’s lionizing Brown anymore. The cop started it, escalated the situation and killed a person who posed no threat to him. For walking in a quiet residential street. If you think a property crime is a capital offense, you belong in Saudi Arabia, where a person can lose his hands for theft. If you think talking back to a cop is a capital offense, we might as well shred the Constitution.

The sad part is that you believe that he deserved death for his juvenile record, you are a pathetic “human” being.

cnn is reporting that people are throwing molotov cocktails at police. These people are very quickly losing respect. Just shameful.

You talk about not ‘lionizing’ Brown’s character in the very post where you seek to besmirch it; exactly what have you seen and heard about this case that would justify an unarmed youth being shot dead in the street?

Obviously Chief Jackson’s campaign of turning this into a story about the character of the victim has worked.

Teenaged kids make mistakes. Most of them grow up to be good citizens.
What if Brown had been white? What would your attitude be then?
Ask yourself one final question, what if Michael Brown was your son, would you want him gunned down in the street because he stole a box of cheap cigars.

Who are “these people?” By all accounts most of the protesters are very peaceful.

The TweedleDumb Chief and the TweedleDumber Mayor

don’t inspire confidence???

My comment was not supposed to be linked to yours, but to NinaQuins. Not sure if it was pilot error on my part, or the wonderful commenting system voodoo.

Sorry, at first I thought wtf?

Edit to add: The fact that they keep showing video of the kid in the convenience store over and over again is a more than a little disheartening.
