The true cruelty of capital punishment is–in most cases–that we make the condemned wait, knowing the date and time of their death.

Finally something fundamentalists Christians and atheists can agree on–he’s NOT going to wake up in a better place.
If the death penalty is going to happen, this is the way it should happen. And yes, it IS revenge. I am perfectly ok with that. The whole deterrent argument is worthless.
And before you ask, yeah, what happened in Arizona was terrible. It should not have happened that way. And for good measure Todd Willingham was INNOCENT!
We should not be in the business of revenge killing.

This man didn’t seem to show even one iota of contrition or remorse. I disagree with capital punishment because I believe state sanctioned murder to try to dissuade others from committing murder seems antithetical. I think justice would have been better served through life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. We certainly have the prison-industrial-complex infrastructure available to house the murderers if we were to make a little space available by not incarcerating all those violent potheads.
