Discussion: Missouri Guv: Officer Who Shot Teen Should Be Named As 'Expeditiously' As Possible

Anyone else get the feeling there’s some sort of uber-rightwing or even KKK or white supremacy link to this shooter, and that is what they are afraid of and that is why they won’t release his name?

I don’t believe they were protecting the Cop in the first place, I think this killer has some serious baggage that should have precluded him from ever carrying a gun let alone becoming a cop, and once they realized they had a Zimmerman actually in uniform, that it would not only expose their clearly hard-right policy of hiring potential reactionaries from that pool of whites-only hate mongers, it would spark even worse unrest than what they are now seeing.

That murderer has a closet full of dirt with skeletons dancing atop it, is my guess, and they can’t find a way to hide it.

see my comment two posts below…
You really don’t get it.
Even in the worst scenarios, they have to release that info, ti is part of a free society for its people to know the score.
If they are that scared fro his safety, they can give him a leave of absence and let him hide away with a few weeks free wages, and/or put him into protective custody.
But keeping his name from the media only provides a lot of suspicions like those I outline below.
It is also state law in some states, Texas for sure, I know, and possibly also Missouri, that anyone involved in a shooting death of an unarmed person, suspect or not, is arrested and charged with one of a number of crimes that the prosecution can refuse to prosecute if they find no fault and then they drop the case. . They have bent all those laws

Releasing the names of those involved in any incident involving the police is standard operating procedure - the public has a right to know (unless those involved are juveniles). Victims’ families can’t refuse to have names or horrible details released nor are others who are accused of crimes granted an exception because they worry for their safety. They absolutely can give this officer appropriate protection but hiding this information (including how many shots were fired, etc) is not “the way it should be.”

I’m just not sure what the purpose is of releasing this guy’s name now. It doesn’t add anything to the mix yet, even if he turns out to be someone with a history of violence. This is information that can wait until tensions ease - the guy aint going anywhere. If warranted, he will be prosecuted.

Sorry that I repeated your points - we must have been typing simultaneously. I read that it is state law in Missouri to release this information.

What? Are you in any way joking? You don’t see how this clearly incompetent police force that is breaking state law could use total control of information to muddy the process? Are you serious?

I would say 24-48 hours, depending on if the cop has a family.

They’ve had 120

Thanks for the warning, it came in handy. And I’m glad I grabbed a bucket, not just a bag, because…blech!

Works for me.

Just as an FYI, the names and mug shots of all of the suspected looters from Sunday night were released and circulated almost immediately. This is STANDARD procedure and the policeman who fired the shots is still unknown.

No guessing.

His job doesn’t make him special. This is SOP. It’s actually completely ridiculous that it hasn’t been released yet. And the public has a right to investigate this so that the police (who have proven both incompetent and very possibly corrupt) don’t completely control the information.

If they released the shooter’s name there would be no need to guess.

He’s the frickin’ governor, and they won’t tell HIM?!?! Time for some ‘termination with cause’ notices to be sent out.

“They” who?

If you want to count the stonewalling of the local police against the Gov. be my guest, but I suggest you are casting stones in the wrong direction.

I don’t disagree.

Is this seriously how you argue? The local police have had 120 hours. Actually more now. The name should have been released days ago. The governor takes responsibility the moment he fails to tell them that.

Which means it will be vilified by Todd Starnes in 3… 2…

Makes you wonder how much dirt Ferguson PD has got hidden under the station house. I keep thinking of that PD in New Jersey (which Chrisco ran interference for, up to and including firing the ADA that was investigating them) that was basically a funhouse for a bunch of gun nuts.
