Discussion for article #246132
It’s a good think that this wasn’t allowed in the 1950s and 1960s. Am I right, Mississippi?
I honestly have no problem with this. I would be more comfortable with it if it required it be open-carry and that signs be posted to alert all visitors on the property that there is an armed security person present, but that’s probably getting into unicorn territory…it is Mississippi after all. I’m willing to bet there are kindergarten classrooms in the country with a higher aggregate educational attainment and IQ level than the Mississippi state legislature. Here they are in session:
Thank God I quit going to church. The last thing I need is to be in a place that’s supposed to be a refuge from the world, and the whole time be wondering who’s going to pull out their sidearm and start blasting away. I avoid places where I feel like I have to be armed to protect myself, but these ministers and other church officials apparently know more about the danger people face at worship than I do.
Stuff like this is how Mississippi is able to proudly cling to its Stupidest State in the Lower 48 title. If they can ever persuade the Palin family to relocate there, they can up(down?)grade to Stupidest State in the Continental United States.
It’s not as if I needed any more reasons to avoid Mississippi or churches, but thanks, anyway.
we need guns in church to protect ourselves from ourselves because we’re so fucked up in this fucked up country.
Mississippi is pretty much last in the country in everything positive, and first in everything negative . But the most pressing issue for the legislature is to allow more guns in churches and immunity for those that use them. I guess MS jails are teeming with people that killed someone defending their church.
Praise the Lord and pass the snakes ammunition.
What kind of place are you living in that you need to be armed when attending church with your neighbors?
Andy Gipson is pastor of Gum Springs Baptist Church in Braxton, Miss.
Call the “Gipper” —(601) 847-5730) — and congratulate him on the passage of this much needed legislation. Don’t forget to ask if they will be changing the name to Gun Springs Baptist Church.
I’m guessing America, specifically Mississippi.
Fine by me. Wouldn’t catch me within a thousand yards of any of 'em.
Going to church while carrying in order to learn Jesus’s message. Got it.

Sounds like the church is really getting it’s message across — Doesn’t it ?
Yet another reason NOT to go to church!
Turn the other cheek, exhale, focus on the front sight and gently press the trigger.
I have this fantasy that one day Mississippi elects a progressive, say a Bernie type or even a Obama like Democrat who puts aside the culture war issues and guns in more places and focuses on all of those “the state is ranked 49th or 50th in fill-in-blank” we are going to do xyz to improve it".
If members of the congregation get caught in the cross-fire can they sue the church ?
