Discussion: Missing Saudi Writer Had Big Plans To Promote Democracy In Troubled Region

Maybe it would help America’s moral and legal authority if we did not do extrajudicial torture and killings.

Just sayin’

I wonder who is on President Trump’s “Kill List” this morning?

No democracy, no justice.

This whole thing makes me sick. Listening to Trump shrug this off because he wasn’t a REAL American citizen and the arms sale to the Saudis was SO much more important turns my stomach. This is the America that the world sees. Uncaring, selfish bastids out to own the world.

And if I can borrow a phrase from Trump’s explanation of Putin’s military annexation of Crimea - Khashoggi may be dead “in a certain kind of way”.

What’s the going rate - one Get Out of Jail card for every $10 billion spent on US military hardware???

Profiles in courage:

Trump: “Khashoggi not our concern, not a U.S. citizen”

Sam Houston: “Forget the Alamo. Technically not U.S. territory”.

Teddy Roosevelt: “Remember the ‘Maine’? Nah. Possibly boiler explosion”

FDR: “War over Pearl Harbor? Wait, investigate! It might’ve been Thailand, and I have Mitsubishi stock to think about”.

G.W. Bush: “9-11 no biggie, probably freak airline accident”

Remember when Rand Paul was pontificating and doing a filibuster over President Obama’s “kill lists?”

He refused to sign the letter from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Trump’s response
disgusting. But (despicably) understandable based on Trump’s M.O. “follow the money” (to trump - not the arms deal - unless he gets a cut of that, too) sort of way.

Ya little jerry fallwell,Trump is a very moral man. :rage:

MBS figures that Putin has been doing this kind of shit for years and hasn’t really paid a major price, so why not get into the “brazenly assassinate dissidents” business as well?

Everyone has talked about Trump’s Russia ties and Russian interference in the election, but there’s an equally important story to be unraveled about just how much the KSA (along with the UAE) has corrupted this administration as well. There are just as many, if not more, nefarious connections between Trumpworld and KSA as Trumpworld and Russia. Recall that Paul Manafort was brought to Trump by his old friend Tom Barrack, because Barrack and Manafort had worked together on Saudi development deals. And then there are the Kushners

Funny you should mention democracy and justice. They’re right at the top of that “Kill List” you mentioned.

In his editorial blog, Josh asked the question if this is the reason why Kashoggi was killed. I think the answer is a resounding yes, because this is more than just writing an editorial or an unflattering article.

This guy was doing the hard work needed for ACTUAL change. If the story about this group he was forming is true, then he was literally working to get people to work together and compromise which would be a true threat to the Saudi Monarchy. Oh I almost forgot: it was also SECULAR.

So yes, he absolutely would’ve been killed for that.

p.s. My condolences to his family and fiancée. Very sad
