Discussion: Minnesota Gov. To Announce Franken's Replacement On Wednesday

He should appoint Franken to fill the seat until and if Trump resigns.

The Lt. Governor of Kentucky is a black woman and a Republican. If she walked up to me right now and slapped me across the face, I’d have no idea who it was.

Well, I’m not sure it’s quite dead yet. But efforts are underway to remove any doubt…

How about replacing Al Franken with Al Franken? This should never have happened

Isn’t it jumping the gun just a bit? Al is still US Senator from Minnesota.

Or why it wasnt brought up or CONSIDERED during the rush to steamroll Al Franken into resigning, lead by prior non-entity junior senator from NY State, D-Wall St.

Believe it or not, but some members of the Party still remember the debacle when then Democratic Governor Wendell Anderson appointed himself to fill the seat of the just-elected Vice President Walter Mondale in 1976. Forty. Freaking. Years. Ago! Needless to say, he lost the next election to Rudy “Plywood Minnesota” Boschwitz. I’m guessing the old timers think that by appointing a placeholder they can avoid a similar fate, but that’s just plain stupid. It’s hardly 1976 again, and unless the governor appoints himself, history won’t repeat…

I read last week that Tina Smith is not interested in campaigning for that Senate seat. Sorry.

Is Dayton? His strategy might include appointing a lame duck as a placeholder.

Oh ok in NC they run separately which is why our Gov is D and Lt Gov is R

Other reports say she is considering a run.

Getting rid of Franken was the “fall on our sword” gesture by the Dems to show how self-righteous they are. I’m not condoning anything Franken did, and he admitted he did wrong. But, the Dems will lose that seat in 2018 and they’ll all go around saying how awesome they are for showing the world how willing they are to commit political suicide. The ethics investigation may have ended the same way, but the Dems think they can now point to Franken’s resignation and expect Trump (or other GOPers) to resign too. WTF? If the Dems remain the minority in both houses in 2018, I’m burning my voter registration card.
