Boots on the groundâŚwhen every senator and congressman has a kid in the fight!!! As for the generals, time for Obama to start firing them!
Mr. President, donât do it! If those living in the region canât defend themselves with American air support and training, then que sera, sera.
ââŚan even greater expansion may be needed for the mission to succeed, including positioning U.S. ground troops with front-line Iraqi security forcesâŚâ
ââŚHe first announced a limited air strike campaign, but the U.S. now is pursuing targets across Iraq and is expected to push the attacks into Syria.â
I recall a Cavalry vs. Indians film with the late Richard Boone as a Cavalry officer in a remote western outpost. He could defend homesteaders, but could not attack any Indians. His role was defense only.
To deal with a renegade group of Indians, he set a trap with a seemingly small group of his troops to entice an attack. His group was hiding nearby and when the renegades took the bait, he and his larger force wiped them out.
âBut sir,â protested his lieutenant, âweâre not supposed to attack Indiansâ.
Countered Richard Boone, âI did not attack. My report will read: âLt. Smithâs patrol came under attack. I came upon the skirmish and supported the defense with the resulting defeat of the renegadesâ.
And so, weâre there to support the defense of Iraq only.
Ah yes, language and politics. Orwell understood.
This is âblood politicsâ, the total corruption of the âpunditocracyââŚa constant need to put Obama in a quandary of realism vs. his stated goals and philosophy. Chris Matthews can in one breath, praise VP Bidenâs affirmative rhetoric of âfollowing ISIS to the gates of hellâ and challenge Obama to step up to similar bellicosity. Matthews then turns on a dime when Obama obliges with ââŚwe will not only contain ISIS but destroys itâ with a stunned analysis of Why?
Itâs past time for this president to stop stepping in front of the camera - leave small-to-medium pronouncements to Rice, Kerry, WH & NSA chiefs to match McWar, Ms. Graham & others in the cable shout-outs!
Clinton practically obliterated the butchers of Kosovo with âjet-bombing campaignâ, and that was considered successful by the âwankingâ pundits. Playing a shrewd game of modern media can quiet this SOBsâŚ
Mentally these guy are no different from the military staff that pushed Kennedy to invade Cuba. It turned out that would have been a very bad idea. Then there was Reganâs huge military exercise with NATO that Russia believed was the real thing and was ready to strike first, till a soviet let the cat out of the bag and NATO pulled back. They are not always right on the spot. I believe that ISIL is way over played and many of those pushing this from the media are connected to contractors who stand to make a ton of Money if it happens.
If we start losing more people to this conflict created in large part by the previous administration and more recently by the Iraqis exacerbating sectarian tensions, the current administration will be defending themselves into perpetuity just like Cheney, et al. It is the result of stupid wars.
Old news.
Borowitz covered this last week:
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz) and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) led the attack on Thursday, blasting Obama for failing to craft a stupid response to crises in Iraq, Syria, and Ukraine.
âInstead of reacting to these events with the haste and recklessness they deserve, the President has chosen to waste valuable time thinking,â McCain said. âThis goes against the most fundamental principles of American foreign policy.â
Graham also expressed frustration with the President, telling reporters, âThe American people are waiting for President Obama to do something stupid, but their patience is wearing thin.â
After the bay of pigs fiasco President Kennedy never listen to his generals again the ones that wanted to bomb Cuba an start ww3 which would have been a nuclear war. Lyndon Johnson did and you saw what happen to him. learn from history mr. president
