You know folks, people are just too cheap. Boycotting is no longer effective because the market is so immense. Tough times are ahead for people, corporations, politicians – everybody. Tough times are really already here for so many in the sub-economy. Except for the elite, we have been reduced to robots and statistics. What happened to the spirit of the seventies when we could still communicate face to face and feel some love? Now, walking down the street if you even dare, is a whole different experience dodging all the trash and detritus (detritus is people, my friend.) Disease is more and more rampant. We have contaminated everything everywhere. Get ready for a ‘minority report’ future. You are looking into a device that alters your perception, hypnotically. And then in an aside, the message from the establishment in Ferguson – “We shoot to kill.” We are the Beatles sucking monster that hoovers everything up, finally seeing its own tail, itself. Fade to white… The world is undergoing an uncontrolled wave of violence and we are not going to escape its effects.
Have you noticed that ALEC is all about looking backward and preserving the past and never about looking forward and inventing a brighter future?
In this instance Microsoft ditched them because ALEC is opposed to renewable energy. Why the hell would ALEC be against renewable energy? Well because the backward looking energy companies like Koch Industries are against renewable energy.
You might check out Aviator as a browser
Well, be fair.
Most HR departments are staffed with complete idiots who only know how to check boxes on meaningless requirements designed to make sure the pre-selected people get hired.
In any company larger than 200 people the ONLY job of the HR department is to keep them out of court.
Calling them “Human Resources” was the first clue to the fact that they see “people” as “consumables” just like printer paper.
I use Aviator as a web browser… it was created based on Chromium. So my hope is that someone will create a mirror to Facebook that gives us choices. I am sure someone is working on it somewhere. And when they do. Facebook will fall flat.
They are really raunchy. No customer service… seriously abusing their monopoly on social media. I really got disgusted when Huffington Post decided to require Facebook login in order to comment on articles there which just further gives Facebook that monopoly type of status.
I just created a facebook profile specifically to post on line. it is not linked to any of my contacts, so they are free to data mine it at will…all they will find is my posts. As a consequence, I rarely log into my real facebook page, freeing my mind and time for more useful pursuits.
It’s about time.
Google sure did leave it’s “Don’t Be Evil” motto in the dust, didn’t it?
MSFT is heavily invested in Common Core as a profit center. Gates Foundation funds the Michelle Rhee/Arne Duncan educational agenda. ALEC pushed CC hard. Damage is done, fascism continues it’s encroachment.
Good. Many companies were originally in ALEC - and as they have become educated abut the regressive ALEC agenda they are leaving. Education shines the light on the bad actors and people and companies can make rational decisions when they know the facts.
Yeah right. And it’s about fucking time
Do you have first hand experience in these environments? Just curious. I find a lot of rhetoric about the business world is based on presumptions or from not being in the board room. But you don’t seem like you’re talking out of your ass, so I’m just curious about personal background.
I could understand if you did and that was your opinion. I could also understand if you didn’t and that was still your opinion.
But speaking personally, HR is used for employee training courses (get 'em trained up on Excel, baby), interviewing and selecting internal promotions with relevant managers, making (not sure where you came up with “pre-selected” - although anyone hired is selected at some point, sure) hires (and yes, fires - very specific paperwork involved with each), handling disputes, any visa paperwork necessary to travel to international offices or clients, making sure managers stay on top of vacation requests and the like, plus fielding the inevitable crap like workplace relationship disclosure forms… A whole world of things.
And I would add that it’s part of everyone’s job to keep the company out of court. “Don’t do stupid shit,” as they say, organizing principle or no. Anything that hurts the thing that gives all of us our jobs is effectively hurting all of our jobs, so be smart.
I won’t dispute the business jargon at the end, but I’d add it stacks up with a bunch of other jargon that doesn’t easily pigeonhole a similar worldview.
Signing off from the world of liberal businesspeople.
We exist.
ALEC began innocuously as a way to get state legislatures to make the laws regulating various companies and industries homologated, so that a national company would not have to operate vastly differently in each state.
The Kochs and their ilk hopped on this ride, and hijacked it to move against all regulation.
Obama is exactly correct. Fascism fails because it is an inherently weak structure: top down doesn’t realize the power of bottom up. Trying to control absolutely every detail of someone else’s life ends with you being overthrown.
Just remember, even Oliver Cromwell’s Puritan revolution didn’t last all that long once he began implementing his ideas of ‘spiritual reform’ and imposing them …
So the reason Microsoft is opting out is hurting its investment on renewable energy. ALEC is in opposition to renewable energy because of it’s big donors the OIL COMPANIES. Wow this is all about money and greed.
Why were they involved in the first place?
“…proof positive of the depth and scope of the corporate reach into our democratic processes…”
Hate to say it, conservatives, but that’s worse than government. We can control government.
If the Republican Party can control government enough to steer pork projects like the giveaway of taxpayer-funded militaristic excess to their political buddies, we can certainly control the government.
Well it is about time MS…you should have never been together in the first place…
The Kochs also fund ALEC beyond their annual dues.
I just clicked your link and scanned the list.
To paraphrase Dante, I didn’t know Hell had undone so many!
My
Did you mean “homologized” or analogous?
