It is certainly true that the First Lady has a right to privacy concerning her medical conditions. The president does as well. But she failed to assert that right, she positively breached it, when she had her spokespeople announce that she had an embolization procedure for a “benign kidney condition”. She has zero right to complain about the speculation people have indulged in to fill in the gaps on this mystery condition. The people speculating are not violating her privacy. She violated her own privacy with a selective release of information that failed to observe any rational privacy boundaries. If it was an angiomyolipoma, why the hell not say that? Is there some secret shame involved in having those? They can be a manifestation of tuberous sclerosis, a more serious, and hereditary, condition. But telling the public you had the embolization is what breached privacy on that issue, and adding that the embolization was for an angiomyolipoma doesn’t add anything to the suspicion of tuberous sclerosis that you’ve already put out there by announcing the embolization. I can’t imagine why someone would think it not unacceptably personal to make a public announcement about having an embolization, but then clam up over why she needed it.

Partial disclosure is an assertion of control, not an assertion of privacy. You assert privacy by answering enquiries about health and medical care by saying it’s none of the public’s business. If you choose to disclose anything, it makes no sense to not finish what you have started, and keep disclosing until you have given a reasonably full account of the medical situation. I put in the “reasonably full” qualifier to cover the point that, of course, full disclosure doesn’t have to include a video of the patient receiving a rectal exam, or any other detail that isn’t medically necessary to give people an understanding of what is happening. The result of the rectal exam may be necessary to give the complete medical picture, but actual pictures of it are TMI.

The newly created Duchess of Sussex deserves propers for wearing what she did, a modern and instant classic Givenchy with a crown which Queen Mary wore in 1932 when she married. She’s dragging the royals into the 21st century, and they’ll be better for it.

I recorded this beginning at 1:30 a.m. PT, so that’s my plan for tonight. It’s good once a while to turn away from current affairs/scandals to look at people in love who don’t mind showing it.

The Obamas care about these things if by that you mean maintaining the “special relationship” we’ve had with Great Britain for many years. They’re good citizens, are on good terms with members of the royal family, but they also knew they’d be criticized for showing up.

Either that or like prisoners or conscripts, they want to stay in the clinic for as long as they can and come up with all kind of symptoms. And as far as I can tell for Melania, the White House is a dreary place where she has been unfairly confined.

I hope he doesn’t find out. Melanie did not complete that architecture degree to pursue her passion for dancing, modeling, acting and to being a street smart businesswoman. Many conservative christian politicians have dumped their wives when they are in or just back from the hospital.

Maybe she’ll do what Cindy McCain did to cope with her awful marriage—post-surgery, opiate-based drug addiction. It didn’t end well, except for the staying out of jail because we must pity the white people and not incarcerate, even though she stole meds from her favorite non-profit and accused a doctor of doing the crime. He got in trouble.

I looked through most of the pictures, and you’re right, I saw show biz people, and entertainers, some very serious in their pursuit of social issues, but no pols. Besides show biz women are attractive and can usually manage to remain attractive even though they put on the out-there hats that seem to be de rigueur at royal weddings.
