This is a fun side issue, but can’t be made into a huge, central issue I think. She’s not running and we’ll just look like we’re victimizing her, even if it’s true…and even if it would make me giggle like a schoolgirl to give her the birth-certificate-treatment about her immigration papers.
No, this will make for some entertaining comments and reporting, but its a non-issue on the campaign trail. Trump supporters will rally around Trump even more vigorously as the see this as the press being unfair to poor precious Melania. And besides maybe a potshot by a surrogate, I doubt that Hillary even addresses it.
The Russian connections is the story that is going to kill Trump, combined with the continuous display of reprehensible behavior. The Russian story because it will continue to slowly leak out more and more over the entire campaign, the behavior because it is so beyond the pale abhorrent and won’t stop ( and will probably escalate as he continues to slip n the polls).
To the average American, Melania doing some photo shoots when on a visitor visa is hardly worth noticing. Attacking a Gold Star family pisses everybody off.
EDIT TO ADD: What it does do is probably make for some more extremely uncomfortable nights for Melania, and significantly increase the chances she gets dumped by Trump very soon after his defeat in November.
