Discussion: Megyn Kelly To Cruz: Won't Judicial Elections Make 'Court More Political?'

Cruz has entirely converted to being a 24/7 “Raw-Meat Machine” for his strident base.

Whoa there little Missy! You are not using logic correctly.

“Who in their right mind would design a system where every major public
policy issue of the day is decided not by the people, not by the
Constitution, not by elected representatives, but by nine elite lawyers
in Washington, D.C.?”

The Supremes were elected by our elected senators’ confirmation votes.

Isn’t it amazing how they pull it off? Do you know a GOP’er that doesn’t spew “the Constitution” in every other sentence? I don’t but they throw that phase around to pose at patriots but…just as soon as that Constitution causes them some difficulty…man that thing has to go! Altering the Constitution to allow for the Election of SC Judges would be the equivalent of pitching Article lll. A massive overhaul of the document.

How much respect do you have for America if you hold Cruz’s position? I don’t remember too many folks asking for Constitutional overhaul when Citizens United or Bush v Gore came down. The Judges ruled. That’s it.

Rule of Law my ass. These guys want top rule…that’s where it’s really at.

My point is that the Court was NOT shoving an unpopular choice down the throat of the people, as Cruz and others claim. The Court was following public opinion, not leading it.

Who in their right mind would design a system where every major public policy issue of the day is decided not by the people, not by the Constitution, not by elected representatives, but by nine elite lawyers in Washington, D.C.?" he asked.

The better question is why is the Supreme Court forced to make these public policy decisions in the first place? The Legislative branch won’t legislate. In fact, they won’t for fear of not being reelected.

He hates it all the way to the bank

Apparently Supreme Court judges are just action figures in 5 year old Rafael’s sand box: “You’re the good guy today.” “You were a hero yesterday, but now you’re the villain.”

I think the term ‘elite’ lawyer should be preserved for those that actually achieved something within the legal field and not because of where someone went to school. I don’t believe he has actually practiced law at any point (although I could be wrong). Even if so, it wasn’t for long.

This is his problem in a nutshell. For all the attestations that he’s brilliant, he simply has no strategic skills at all.

Apparently the question is hard, so it might be for a $1,000…

nine elite lawyers in Washington, D.C.

He bitches that these “elites” are running things, these out-of-touch Harvard/Yale (exclusively!) types.

Didn’t Raphael graduate MCL from Harvard? And he’s an elite? And he wants to be Prez?

Moron…

Cruz’s book is titled “A Time For Truth.” That presupposes that Ted is all knowledgeable on all matters of “truth.” That would be false.

The real truth, which Cruz knows very well, but pretends he doesn’t, is that over the totality of history, the Supreme Court has been the best friend conservatives could possibly want. Whether it was supporting slavery, approving segregation or killing parts of the New Deal, the Court has generally blocked progress. The only major exception may have been during the Civil Rights era, and even there, the Warren Court’s decisions, while unpopular in the South, probably represented a broad national consensus. Liberals would have likely done better 80 or 90% of the time with a popular vote than in letting “elite lawyers” decide. That includes gay marriage, by the way.

Being an “immigrant”, Cruz is unable to grasp the history of America. Ask Ann Coulter if that isn’t so.

Bingo. It sure backfired on them too…

Cruz (and others) want people who think like them to make all the decisions regardless of the popular will of the people. In fact, they’d prefer to make all the decisions themselves. I’m glad to see any kind of pushback against these psychopaths because dictatorships suck.

Maybe it would be good if they had to run for reelection. Then they would feel the pressure from all the donors and change their minds about the corrupting influence of money in politics… bahaha. Sometimes I say crazy things!

Teddy has so much respect and regard for the wisdom of the Founding Fathers … that he wants to undermine one of the most fundamental tenets of the U.S. Constitution – the separation of powers.

I’m quoting this again, like several other posters, because FOUNDING FATHERS YOU F*CKING “CONSTITUTIONAL” “CONSERVATIVE” JACKASS!

I seriously have trouble comprehending how these people do not just melt down completely from cognitive dissonance. Just the statement, “this Supreme Court decision was unconstitutional” seems to me like it should be impossible to say with a straight face.
