Discussion: Megyn Kelly Goes Dark At NBC: She's Out This Week, May Not Come Back

I don’t believe that. At least not after the disaster her current show has been and the even worse train wreck that was Hugh Hewitt’s show. She’s hired a new attorney for a reason, to do battle over her current contract, not to get her a new one.

I think they should make her dance around in a straw hat and then pull her off of her set with a giant hook.

Exit stage right.

Saying she didn’t know that “blackface” is racist is a lie. She has been a Race Baiter her entire career, NBC should fire her.

”Where do you think Megyn Kelly would be happier, as part of big breaking news or forced to cover light-hearted stories that traditionally work at 9 a.m.?” the source who spoke to Kelly told Variety.

These people are so delusional, they can’t function outside of their rightwing bubble; we should call it a “snowglobe”

In what world would someone who didn’t know blackface was racist be qualified to report on real news?

And with respect to legacy news outfits: the fact that they still have competent real journalists on staff is an artifact. They clearly have no idea what they are doing. Hiring a nominal conservative, crossfire style, is one thing. But people coming out of the Fox bubble are not journalists, and are not qualified to work at a real news outfit. Even people who seemed like real journalists before they went to Fox have damaged themselves beyond repair by showing the bad judgement to consider that cesspool a news organization.

Kelly would be perfect in a remake of Gone with The Wind. Or The Jazz Singer.

This seems like a serious overreaction from NBC. I mean, she asked a question – why is blackface unacceptable in a costume, when, say ethnic associated clothing in a costume is not?

I get the minstrel show association is concerning, and that minstrel shows, while dropping off in popularity at the turn of the 20th century, still existed as late as 50 years ago. But is it really a crime to ask how much time must pass after a costuming technique was used stupidly or in a racist connotation, before you can use that technique without giving offense?

We really look like a bunch of whiners when we try to silence someone for something relatively minor.

Her ratings were terrible, so it isn’t a surprise that they would yank her from her slot, but I sure hope her blackface comment isn’t used as an excuse to fire her. Her apology was better than most I have seen in this era of “if I have offended you, I apologize” apologies.

Her problem is she needs to learn how to listen. She was leading a four white person panel when she made her blackface comment. None of the others agreed with her. In fact they all pushed back. That should have been her first clue.

Trick question. TV “news” isn’t real news, it’s infotainment. All the content of a 30 minute TV news show can be consumed in 45-90 seconds if presented as text.

I’m thrilled she’s getting canned. One thing I really didn’t want to happen is for any of the people who leave Fox to find success in the mainstream. I want Fox to be the place where journalism careers go to die a terrible, awful death. It may discourage some young journalists from even wanting to work there. That’s a good thing.

No, she didn’t just ask a question. She went on to opine that it should be perfectly okay. She knew exactly what she was doing.

Am I the only one who thinks keeping her at NBC could be a teaching opportunity? About 40% of the country - 99.9998% of them white*** - agree with her. If she very publicly emerges from the rich-white-lady-in-a-bubble to one who better understands the racial realities this country faces, it could be a huge step forward.

Batter away.

All statistics used in this post are pulled entirely from the poster’s hiney and are in no way based in scientific fact

I disagree. I don’t know Kelly’s age, but I will venture to say she had a whole lot more high-end schooling that I’ve ever seen and this 52yo white boy from rural Virginia knew the answer to that question in my teens. Perhaps there’s nothing wrong with asking the question, but once it’s explained to you by your colleagues (who are closer to and are actual journalists) – three of them … ON AIR, for god’'s sake, you should be bright and gracious enough to take a hint and back down. I think asking Megyn Kelly to use it as a learning experience at that time would have been asking too much. If she decides to do so now, let her do so on her own time and dime. Like @pluckyinky said, she knew exactly what she was doing. She’s too smart to cry otherwise.

But she isn’t a rich-white-lady-in-a-bubble, she is a rich white lady troll.

In my field the person responsible for such a bad hire in the first place would soon follow her out the door. This was a colossal F-Up from day one. Anyone with half a brain could have predicted that Megyn “Santa Claus was white” Kelly would not work out in any platform outside of Fox or the 700 Club.

But really, what is “fired”? A lot of people are saying that being fired doesn’t actually result in losing your job. The same people are saying Santa Claus exists, and he does so while being white.
