Discussion: Meet Emmet Flood, Trump's Latest Legal Weapon Against The Mueller Probe

Can Trump afford to pay this guy? Sounds like some-one who charges big bucks.

Perhaps in the same sense that Trump will (say) release Melaniaā€™s immigration information very soon, perhaps in two or three weeks.

Donā€™t forget that, at the most fundamental level, these things are all about money. Flood runs in very wealthy circles (Koch brothers, etc.). So here you see big money coming in to try to take care of its own.

This was my initial reaction, as well. It is just difficult to imagine that a top notch lawyer would be able to manage Trumpā€™s indiscipline long enough to last very long. Being the middle man in a negotiation between Muellerā€™s all star team and Trumpā€™s brand of crazy canā€™t be easy.

Maybe heā€™ll have to sell Eric.

The quid pro quo possibly being that the Kochā€™s get to run Cabinet departments like EPA and Education.

Total guess from someone who is qualified only to make unqualified guesses:
By representing the office instead of the man, Flood can throw sand in the gears with less likelihood of drawing charges of obstruction.

Hard to tell nowadays given Trump conflates the two. See his emoluments clause violations. If heā€™d followed the very good advice he got after the election he wouldnā€™t be having half these problems heā€™s having now.

I thought they already were.

Obviously, Flood is not a top notch lawyer. If he really were one, he wouldnā€™t be taking the job.

At what point will the interests of the office conflict with the interests of the man? I think it may well be that, for the most part, the interests will be mutual, and therefore to Trumpā€™s benefit - I think weā€™re going to hear a lot of talk about presidential powers and separation of powers and such that Trump will not have a clue about - and perhaps will find some tweeterific way of screwing up.

What gives me some kind of comfort is believing that as good as Flood may be, I think the Mueller team is better.

Flood has been brought it to provide cover for Trump firing Rosenstein and/or Sessions and appointing (Nunes/Kobach/etc) as the new MAGA A-G; to resist Mueller subpoena; and to set aside any presidential indictment. Cobb didnā€™t have the stomach for it. Flood is a conscienceless hack, however.

Trumpā€™s legal team gets on board:

Remember: HE LOST. The courts determined that Clinton could be sued. It would be a gross violation of a plaintiffā€™s rights to then determine that Clinton could not be subpoenaed, deposed and subjected to written discovery requests.

That is for a civil suit, granted, but the SCOTUS will pretty much have to decide that no sitting president can be subjected to any criminal investigation or charges, no matter what he does, to find that he cannot be investigated, deposed, subpoenaed before a grand jury, etc. etc. etc.

If THAT is what the SCOTUS decides, the country has died and the Founding Fathers failed completely in their attempt to create a system of govā€™t that would protect its citizens from the abuses and evils of autocracy.

Seth is spot on here. I hadnā€™t thought of it in these terms.

Emmet Fudd.

If what you say occurs, perhaps it was a failure of imagination in that, as, for the most part, landed gentry, they couldnā€™t see beyond their own privilege.

Did I hear this right? Elmer Fudd is Trumpā€™s new attorney?
ā€œShhh. Be vewy vewy quiet, Mr Twump! Iā€™m hunting wabbits.ā€

His ā€œre-election campaignā€ seems to be the all-purpose legal defense slush fund. In other words, heā€™s milking the suckers to pay his legal bills.

Maybe another reason why Flood is representing the office rather than Trump personallyā€“easier to use campaign funds to pay him. Hope Flood got a fat retainer in advance.

It is all but impossible for an attorney to represent a person in any matter and especially a criminal matter who lies to their attorney. Now that does not mean you need to tell your attorney that ā€œI did itā€. If the attorney thinks you did it, the attorney will likely not ask the question. But in regard to evidence that the prosecution probably has like for example; did Jr. call you in between his two phone calls to a Russian spy about Putin providing dirt on Hillary:

if Trump lies to Flood and Flood acts on that lie in his defense of Trump only to find out that Trump lied to Flood,

Flood will be compromised in his defense and discussions with Mueller and have to resign.

Or to put another way, Flood is Trumpā€™s lawyer for as long as it takes Trump to lie to Flood on a material matter,.

Or to put still another way, we should take a poll on how long before Flood has to resign.

If Flood acts like Ty Cobb who was an attorney for the office and not the man, I give Flood 90 days. Otherwise, if Flood acts like he is Donald Trumpā€™s lawyer and not the lawyer for the office of the President, 9 days.
