Discussion: McMaster: Violence At Charlottesville White Nationalist Rally Was 'Terrorism'

McMaster lost me at “what are we teaching our children?”

I would ask McMaster, “what has Trump taught our children and child-like adults in the campaign, and in the White House?”

(answer: hatred, violence, division…)

“I feel like a tick on the butt of a buffalo, but I want you to know how important I am. I’m white. That makes me important in my own eyes.”

Yes, thank you. That’s it in a nutshell.

These are losers. Pure and simple. They used to be able to cling to their white guy status as a way to prop up their failed identities. But the US had an awesome black POTUS for 8 years, the sports teams they worship are full of black superstars, colleges LIKE admitting smart students of color, mixed race celebrity couples are everywhere, Jim Crow laws are history, laws against racial discrimination are everywhere, and on and on. The horror! What’s a loser white guy supposed to cling to these days? Who will he claim superiority to?? How will his pathetic ego survive???

Bein’ a white guy just ain’t what it used to be…

Why do these accomplished men seek to excuse Trump, whom they are well aware is a demented half-wit?

“WHO they are well aware …”

McMaster should no longer appear in uniform, either in photos taken while in a Military role or now in his political role. He is functioning in a civilian capacity and should be shown as such.

I’m happy to agree with the National Security Advisor. I’d go further. Everyone who sports any sort of confederate or nazi anything, is a terrorist sympathizer. So what will the National Security Advisor do about the terrorist sympathizers inside the White House?

I actually went to the trouble of logging in to TPM on my damned cell phone to congratulate you on this comment.

As usual, there’s more than one way to read McMaster’s comments.

In the last six months, McMaster has already dealt with several dysfunctional issues from the alt-right folks. He’s no Michael Flynn. Trump screwed up so badly on hiring Michael Flynn that more rational types in Washington had some leverage for a few weeks. I could be wrong but my impression is that McMaster was forced on Trump as a compromise Trump was willing to accept at a weak moment.

Admittedly, it’s not all that clear where we are now except that Trump’s chaos and unfitness for office continues.

Sometimes we all at one time or another write our comments a little too fast. “Subhuman” in the current environment, given the thinking of white nationalists, is not a useful word to use. There is the added feature that Trump probably has a mental illness and should not have been nominated in the first place.

So Herbert, his real first name is Herbert, what are you going to do about it.

Why do these accomplished men seek to excuse Trump, whom they are well aware is a demented half-wit?

“You salute the rank, not the man”

I love to know what it would take to get Bernie to stop fanning the flames of dissension and what it would take to get the Berners to work as team members instead of “our way or the highway to trump again”. The Berners got what they wanted, trump in office to teach us all a lesson of what happens if Dems don’t bow to their whims, worship Bernie and demean Hillary or anyone else who isn’t Bernie. It’s a problem.

General McMaster needs to send that in a Tweet to Trump or to say it on Faux and Friends or to post it on Breitbart news: otherwise Trump won’t know he ever said it unless it comes up while playing golf.

I expect better from McMaster, whom we know for certain well understands the relation between hearts & minds and blood & guts.

In the future, regardless of local open-carry laws, any permit for a political rally must stipulate that firearms are strictly forbidden. Tensions would not have run so high and hot if not for the implicit threat of “armed protesters.” And to be fair, antifa never help either. They are just as much spoiling for a fight as any of the Nazis. They should be disinvited from all rallies and protests; they should be welcome to show up without their stupid Nazi flags, without their stupid uniforms, and without their stupid combat gear. I expect a lot better from the left than from the right, and so it’s the left’s responsibility to expel violent agitators and Nazi fetishists from peaceful political actions.

They need to go back to school and learn what the fuck the civil rights movement was – any civil rights movement, anywhere in the world since Ghandi. What we want for a model is Selma, not Chicago '68, or Caracas '17 for that matter.

I agree with everything except 5 and 6. Because that’s exactly what the enemy would do to us and it ain’t right. They’re already a bunch of fake martyrs, don’t make them into heroes in their own minds.
I would replace your 5 with : restore the pre-Reagan FCC regs that said stations must give all political parties equal time
6: Increase and Enforce transparency of where campaign money comes from

because they are greedy.
