I don’t understand why McConnell is meeting with them.

He doesn’t care what Jon Stewart thinks. I suspect KY is not a hotbed of Daily Show fans or liberal culture generally, so it’s not clear that Stewart’s ability to shame him publicly could have any political consequences. And McConnell has absolutely no shame anyway, so unless he thinks Stewart could convince KY Republicans to vote for someone else, I don’t see the point.

I know Mitch is up for re-election in 2020, but I suspect the folks who are determined to see McConnell ousted have a laundry list of complaints that very possibly doesn’t even include treatment of 9/11 responders.

This won’t move any needles that need moving. So, why?

Staten Island is the only place in NYC area where a R can get elected. A lot of NYC police and firefighters live in Staten Island. A lot of first responders came out of Staten Island. McConnell’s snub hurts R party there and hurts Trump at least a little. That’s all I’ve got

McConnell is loathe to violate his “pay to play” rule, but in this case, after all the public exposure, he’ll make an exception.
