Discussion: McConnell: Trump Not Releasing His Taxes Breaks With Tradition

A broken clock is right twice a day. McConnell is right about this. My guess is Romney is also right. There is at least one bombshell in Trump’s return.

McConnell: Its works fine for us as it eases our burden to scrutinize the tax return. It gives us more time to deal with SCOTUS nominee.

Mitch! Not considering a Supreme Court nominee does not break with tradition. It insults tradition. You have no standing to talk about anyone who breaks any tradition, a hole!!

that it would be a departure from decades of historical precedent

McConnell: Historical precedence was the only factor in the Senate following Biden Rule for Garland.

“Well, most candidates for president have [released their returns] and that’s been the tradition in the past,” McConnell told reporters.

At least it’s the tradition for candidates who only earn $500k per year.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said Tuesday that it would be a departure from decades of historical precedent if presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump refused to release his tax returns before the November election.

…so NOW historical precedent makes a difference?

Trump’s supporters have absolutely no curiosity as to whether his income and investment interests pose a conflict with his duties as President of the United States. Amazing.

“Democratic candidates Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Hillary Clinton have both made their returns public.”

No, Bernie has not. Stop letting him off the hook.

“And Sanders’ shortcomings are actually bigger than the screenshot above would suggest. The 2014 filings Sanders released consist of just the first two summary pages of his Form 1040 and the equivalent summary pages from his home-state Vermont tax form.”

In his response to Sen. McConnell’s invocation of historical precedence with respect to the release of tax returns Trump announced his belief that the Biden Rule is not limited to Supreme Court vacancies.

It would be our pragmatic conclusion that once the political season is underway, and it is, action on the release of my tax returns must be put off until after the election campaign is over. That is what is fair to the nominee and essential to the process. Otherwise, it seems to me we will be in deep trouble as an institution.

“Transparency is also a tradition we’re willing to break,” the senator from Kentucky later gurgled.

Geewiz Mr. Turtle, none of us even knew that! /s

If anyone knows about the calculus behind not releasing tax returns because they contain a “bombshell” whose exposure would be more damaging than the fallout from not doing so, it would be Mittens.

Mittens whose father, George, started this tradition by presidential candidates in 1967 by releasing twelve full years. He had earlier noted that a single year’s returns told you nothing because it could be a fluke or “done for show” and said what mattered was how a man handled his finances over the long haul. (That is, he knew you could fake an outcome in a single year by accelerating or deferring income, expenses and deductions, but couldn’t do it over the long haul).

You mean Trump is worthless?

Biden Rule does not exist. It never existed: even as he uttered it, no one in Congress, including his fellow Democrats, followed it.

These guys do polling up to their necks 24/7. There must be some rumblings from below that could affect the GOP senate races. Otherwise he wouldn’t be talking about the subject. Few things are by accident …

Maybe they prove Von Clownstick was not born here.

He should release his birth certificate.

Right now.

I saw an article that with blocking Garland it makes it more likely that McCain will lose his race and old single guy Mitch will lose control of the Senate. He worked a long time to be majority leader of the Senate and he will do whatever he can to stay there.

Wow, Mitch really slammed him, didn’t he?
