I am soooooo tired of this hyper-partisan POS.
Ugly politics. Ugly face.
Heâs genuinely scared. Cool.
So? If I were a Democratic senator up for reelection I would revel in this. Iâd send letters to all of my constituents pointing out that I was being held up in Washington, because the Republicans who are said to control Congress canât get their act together. Iâd have interviews on every television station in the state telling the folks back home that Iâd love to be able to smell the grass and see the flowers and shake their hands, but that the Republicans are holding the Senate hostage, even though they have a majority in both houses. I would focus my campaign around the Do-Nothing Republican Congress. (Hmm, seems to me Iâve heard that before somewhere. Now, where was it?)
Absolutely. But it requires some guts from Dems and, historically, theyâre often in short supply.
Give 'Em Hell!
Go ahead, sweetheart! The grassroots have got this.
McConnell seems to fundamentally not grasp the concept that Democrats seek elected office so that they can serve.
And this has been pointed out time and again by god and everybody. Itâs impossible his aides havenât seen the notion plastered all over the internet. DEMOCRATS WANT TO BE IN SESSION GETTING THINGS DONE. But apparently they canât get through to him.
Please proceed, Yertle.
Well, if I read this right and not long ago, the Senate has virtually no business yet this year. So, if this is still true, Dem Senators can go home and not miss any key votes!
It would be so delicious if the Dems took the Senate in November.
Dems: âWhy, weâre happy to do our constitutionally-mandated job for our constituents instead of taking a 3-week vacation every month! We donât have to be blackmailed by Mitch McConnell and the GOP to do our job. We were going to do it anyway.â
Exactly. We are seeing signs of change. While the current leadership fights to maintain their power, their days are number.
If there is a slimy, under handed way of countering any threat to any republican issue you know McConnell will take it.
Itâs mid-May. Is McConnell so incompetent he canât get business done by the end of July?
Right. The Republicans didnât get anything done for EIGHT FKING YEARS with 3 day work weeks and SEVERAL long recesses (let alone all the âinvestigationsâ that rolled on for years!) and they want to pressure DEMS for historic obstructions? GO AHEAD AND DO IT. We have the ground game going and weâll make SURE that at every single rally, every single coffee shop, every single phone call that we remind voters of the sht that these VERY desperate Cons are pulling. VOTEVOTEVOTEVOTEVOTE!!!
Trump has threatened lawmakers not to take their August break until they can secure funding for his wall in next yearâs budget.
From Vulnerable Sen. Heller abasement story.
With social media, politicians can be in two places at once. Add to old_curmudgeonâs commercials with daily, hourly, or play-by-play tweets, texts, Instagrams, Facebook posts.
McConnell is still fighting the last war.
Yeah, my first thought was that might serve the Republicans poorly. They need some face time to convince the independent voters they are not as crazy as Trump.
Something to consider:
Article I, section 5 of the Constitution requires that a quorum (51 senators) be present for the Senate to conduct business. Often, fewer than 51 senators are present on the floor, but the Senate presumes a quorum unless a roll call vote or quorum call suggests otherwise.
With Sid McCrashcup âdying anywaysâ the Senate would fall one vote short of a quorum. Could the Dem Senators (along with the two Independents) call McTurtleâs bluff by simply not showing up en masse? After all, there is no rule that says a Senator has to show up.
I have no idea how this would work but there seems to be a never-ending supply of arcane rules that might apply to deny the Rethugliklans their latest wet dream.
