Mitch might be begging for $$ from the deep pockets but I think he knows they are in dire straights. No way Mitch would admit this storm is coming this early in the cycle if he weren’t scared and getting more scared. He knows the orange stain will continue to spew and this polls will continue to spiral down.

Yes, they know the House is gone. They’re worried about holding the Senate. Although it’s not McConnell’s wheelhouse, he knows if the House is gone and the Senate is either very close or gone then that means they’ll lose a bunch of statehouses and governorships. Without controlling those then they’ll lose their ability to continue to gerrymander the House in 2020 AND they’ll lose their ability to install/keep in place voter suppression measures. In a redistricting year and a presidential election year they’ll have at the top of the ticket either the most hated president in history or a guy who thinks mayonnaise is too spicy.

I’m one of this constituents, unfortunately, and I never listen to him either.
I tend to agree, but with one caveat. If the beating is bad enough and the fear runs deep enough there may suddenly be a cabal of shook Republicans who are already terrified of running on the same ballot as PP and don’t want to rock the boat even a tiny bit more than they already have. If you’re Gardener, Sullivan, and certainly Collins, you’re already going to be carrying the Kavannaugh stench and you might not want to make it any worse.
