McConnell understands this game so much better than Trump does. The Senate’s supermajority rule has generally been a bar to progressive legislation. It has rarely helped the left. McConnell understands that changing Senate voting rules would be shooting off his nose to spite his face. Which is why this is a rare case in which I sincerely hope that Trump gets his wish (though he won’t).
Imagine how many GOP Senators just texted McConnell: “My hiding place! Our ability to blame Dems! The polls! No! No!”

I think Mitch fairly well knows that Senator Schumer’s remark yesterday saying negotiating with Trump is “like negotiating with Jell-O” is the gospel truth. Personally, I take great exception with Senator Schumer’s rude and thoughtless remark, since Jell-O has far greater intelligence than Donald Trump, and doesn’t jiggle as much as Trump’s fat ass.
I have to admit I get a chuckle out of McConnell’s dismissiveness toward the President of the United States when Trump makes these thundering demands. Everyone looks at McConnell and he as much as says “Yeah well we’re not going to be doing that.” It’s how a group treats suggestions from an annoying person with zero status.
You got it! So now, Yertle gets to fend off public opinion (which is against the Rethugs), some of his own Senators (who have their own reasons to not go along with Rump’s program) AND Rump jumps on the pile just for good measure.
The only part of this fiasco that make at least some of it worth it.

Stopping progressive movement is the main contribution of the Senate Filibuster. And since the rePukelican decent into nihilist fascism (from Reagan on) it has also been very useful in demoralizing the general electorate to not vote. Remove the filibuster and a lot more voters will vote. Mitch ain’t gonna go there no matter how much Sean Hannity grocks about it and DIrty Pig in the White House listens to him.
