Discussion: McConnell 'Increasingly Optimistic' That GOP Will Have Contested Convention

Why seek a demotion?

What a coincidence. I am increasingly optimistic there will be a Democratic Senate.

Nothing makes Mitch happier than when the voters are screwed. He’s a real piece of work. And by “work,” I mean “shit.”

How would Triumph the Insult Comic Dog respond?

Most republicans are already convinced that Hillary will be a one term President, and the ones I hear from have already accepted they are losing the General.

But saying he is “optimistic” about a contested convention is just insane. It goes a long way to guaranteeing Hillary wins and does disastrous things for them down ticket. I mean, the list of GOPers skipping the convention is a huge tell already. And McConnell is optimistic about looking like complete fools on national television??

Me too!

Though, of course, I’d be a lot more optimistic if GOP delegates could bring guns to the Republican Convention.

I just can’t in good conscience agree while Ted Cruz’s face is still out there … somewhere … wandering the country in search of an endorsement.

I want somebody who can win in November

Just like Mitch was convinced he could make Obama a one-term President?

To be fair, McConnell has been successful at making someone a one-termer.

Himself, as senate majority leader. Couldn’t happen to a bigger douchebag…

Amazing. A contested convention would essentially consist of a plane crash meeting a train wreck in a china shop…

…and they’re hoping for that.

The definitive gauge would be to see what Bill Kristol thinks.

Pick someone who can beat Hillary. Who is that? It can’t be a dropout, so you are looking at a non-candidate; Romney? Ryan? Maybe one of the six Republican women in the US Senate. Susan Collins. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

The ennui and shadenfreude in your last six words is a miracle of sentence structure. Bravo.

“He also said it was ‘up to the delegates’ whether an outsider who had not been running in the primary should be able to come in and win the nomination.”

Don’t need Apple or the FBI to decrypt that coded message…

Second most punchable face as long as Ted Cruz is alive (sort of.)

Yes, It’s unlikely Trump will get the 1237 delegates needed to win on a first ballot. So who will be the GOP savior? If they are thinking straight, the answer is right in front of them … Kasich.

Now what about Kasich? He is what the establishment has always been looking for. Someone who can beat Hillary.
