This is Mitchās first move to ease Trump out of his predicament. McConnell is sounding more Trump like just as more members of his caucus are becoming more openly opposed to a prolonged shutdown. The idea imho is to cave, but to do so in a way that sets up a political argument on border security. Thatās the most logical way out of this. It is what Cory Gardner suggested last week. Dems just have to be patient and persistent. This should end in a week. Trump will work out his temper tantrum over the remainder of the week to keep the Manafort revelation out of the news cycles. I would expect by the weekend that heāll either go with the National Emergency gambit or heāll just cave and blame the Dems for obstruction. He might prefer the latter so he can use the āno obstructionā line and combine it with his āyouāre the puppetā cadence: āNo obstruction, No obstruction, No, youāre the obstructionā¦The Democrats are obstruction.ā Fox will eat it up.

With all due respect, neither Trump, McConnell, Schumer or Pelosi are experts, Trump claims to be a businessman. What would a business do in such a situation? Theyād call in a group of experts and have them formulate a detailed plan. And they wouldnāt shut the doors while the experts were working on things.
