Anyone remember the days when the GOP typically fought against abuse of office, corruption, crony-capitalism?
It sure seems like a long time ago that’s for damn sure.
If there is any justice this majority leader and his corrupt wife should both die in jail.

I’m no constitutional expert, say like Laurence Tribe, but the Constitution says this and it doesn’t seem to extend to members of Congress or a Cabinet. Maybe Liz Warren has a plan to change that 
The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.
Members of Congress may be censured and subsequently removed from office.
Our four consecutive days of 96 degrees are over as well. Today will be about 75, no need to spend the day in Starbucks, Peets and supermarkets where there is A/C and none chez blue. Praise the goddess of cool air.
A Cabinet member cannot be impeached. If she had a soul, she’d be shamed into resigning.

Or when the GOP would criticize some of our major cities for engaging in similar corrupt practices. Say a Chicago alderman or their relative owned a small paving company and managed to wrangle some municipal contracts, even there it would be flagged and prosecuted.

The Senate has concluded that members of Congress (Representatives and Senators) are not “civil officers” for purposes of impeachment. As a practical matter, expulsion is effected by the simpler procedures of Article I, Section 5, which provides “Each House shall be the Judge of the Elections, Returns and Qualifications of its own Members… Each House may determine the Rules of its Proceedings, punish its Members for disorderly Behaviour, and, with the Concurrence of two thirds, expel a Member.” (see List of United States senators expelled or censured and List of United States Representatives expelled, censured, or reprimanded). This allows each House to expel its own members without involving the other chamber. In 1797, the House of Representatives impeached Senator William Blount of Tennessee, The Senate expelled Sen. Blount under Art. I sec. 5 on the same day. However, the impeachment proceeding remained pending (expulsion only removes the individual from office, but removal after impeachment bars the individual from holding future office, so the question of further punishment remained to be decided). After four days of debate, the Senate concluded that a Senator is not a “civil officer of the United States” for purposes of the Impeachment clause, and dismissed for lack of jurisdiction. The House has not impeached a Member of Congress since Blount.
Her record as Secretary of Labor in dubya’s cabinet was just as awful. Should have been called Secretary of Management.

Are you that lacking in imagination? If he wants to try not giving a House-passed impeachment a hearing, he would have to eat that decision in his re-election bid. He himself is not unscathed in this scandal and should really recuse himself. The ads against him write themselves.

What part of a Cabinet member cannot be impeached do you not understand? A president with a conscience could fire her, or the secretary herself if she had a soul would resign. Those are the choices.

Yeah we got a break that we needed with people having no power. It has been cooler here than there. It’s going to get hot again this weekend but everybody should have power back up by then.
I’m surprised we have power already - they were telling us 7:30 tonight and maybe not til Thursday.
