Discussion: McCain's Return For Obamacare Repeal Vote Heavy With Drama, Symbolism

True to form for an AP story. All about the game, nothing about what his dramatic return may mean for his constituents or the rest of the country.

Unlike Kennedy who’s last votes were about saving medical help for those with nothing, McCain’s last votes will be about taking away that care. Quite a note to end your legacy on Senator …

So he’ll courageously cast a vote to sentence to death people who are fighting a deadly disease, as he is, but without his near limitless resources. Good show, McCain.

In honor of his return to the Senate Floor, they are hoisting the McCain ceremonial flag on Capitol Hill.

True to form for the GOP legislators and voters. They’ll get up out of their death beds at 3:00 AM to vote for anything, regardless of merit, that they think will fuck other people over. McCain may have cancer; sorry about that; but he’s still an asshole. The man is full of himself. He believes this world can’t operate properly without him. He’ll never resign. He’ll be taken out of the Senate on a gurney with a shroud over his head. A black one would be appropriate

He’ll be taken out of the Senate on a gurney with a shroud over his head.

The shroud will be the one on his legacy. He’ll morph from Vietnam POW hero to the self-serving hypocrite who took health care away from millions of Americans while his own life is being extended greatly by the best health care possible.

I was hoping McCain’s bout with brain cancer would make him see the light in the way that is so typical to Republicans: “Particular bad shit happens to me, therefore I am now passionately against this particular bad shit happening to others, whereas before I couldn’t give two shits about anyone who couldn’t pull themselves up by their own bootstraps.”

But it seems the tumor in his brain is impinging on the right supramarginal gyrus.

Or, you know, it could be that he’s just an asshole, and, in fact,

His Governor is against it. He has been publicly ambivalent. He is currently very involved with the medical system. OTOH: he’s a big party man when voting time comes. Let’s see which John McCain shows up today.

If Mc Cain was the hero and do gooder portrayed in recent recitations about his life and career, he would return and cast a definitive vote for the American people who will suffer under this yet to be understood abomination.Alas, he is no better than a common street pimp, exploiting the resources available to him and living a life blissful indifference to the responsibility that goes with his office. Thanks for your service and lack there of.You are a disgrace just as surely as the dolt that has mesmerized you.

McCain was born into a military family, moved directly from the military to Congress and married money. The only time in his life he ever suffered anything like healthcare insecurity is when he was a POW.

Don’t know how that works under these circumstances, but it certainly seems to have been a major part of his attitude until now.

Is Sen. John McCain, a man who has been on government paid healthcare FOR OVER 80 YEARS SINCE THE DAY HE WAS BORN, using one of his last days on earth to snatch healthcare from 23 million people!??

Sucking from the public teat from CRADLE to GRAVE for HIM, but DIE IN THE GUTTER for everyone else!?

Boy, that better not freaking happen!

If he cares about his legacy as a “Maverick,” a no vote would put the seal on it.

Dollars to donuts the hypocritical scoundrel will show up to laugh in the faces of those who’ve inexplicably lauded him while he acted no better than a criminal.

If that’s the case, I will really tell you how I feel about the man…

Oh, the courage, the independence, the maverickiness…a lesser person might have foregone this, but John McCain will fly back to DC to try to pass the signature legislation of the guy who humiliated him, and to take away from millions any hope of getting the sort of care he is receiving right now as he stares death in the face.

It takes a very, very special sort of guy to do this.

Oh fuck you AP, he would be voting to strip millions of access to the sort of care that is keeping him alive, but I guess what is really important is that he will be sticking it to the black man who beat him one last time. Fuck, this is everything wrong with the news media today.

This is also reminiscent of McCain’s return from the presidential campaign trail in 2008 to address the financial crisis. He rushed to Washington to hang out in the cafeteria for a few hours.

The self-serving part is a headscratcher. How does he benefit from this? I’m more inclined to think he has a delusion that he’s doing something noble. Either that or the Senate Republicans are pulling a Roy Cohn and somebody’s guiding his hand to cast a “yes” vote while he lies there semiconscious.

Dem Senators should be wary that a barely conscious McCain doesn’t suddenly pop up off his gurney and try to eat their brains. A true zombie Senator for a zombie bill.

I was thinking something similar. Returning from his sick bed to stick his thumb in the eye of the man who denigrated his colleagues and insulted him personally would certainly be more memorable and frankly worth remembering than yet another vote to support his party and harm his constituents.
