“This just shows a tremendous chasm between the two senior members of the House Intelligence Committee,”
Kind of neuters the efforts of Mr. Nunes to protect Trump, when you put it that way.
Well thanks Uncle John but we can’t afford 12 more months of asking questions. Trump and his fellow criminals would love to have more breathing room right now. And then we have Comey who’s so fucking afraid to step on anyone’s toes that it borders on the comical. Would we have gotten to Nixon resigning w/o Judge Siraca breaking a few eggs?
That’s it McCain–show some of your old school mavericky self and be a champion for America.
I can’t believe I just typed that.
For once I agree with you, Grampy. For once. The key is whether you walkback your comment / intent, as is your normal process.
You will feel better after a shower.
Maybe Senator McCain noticed Nunes forgot to brush off his knees before he left his meeting with Trump.
Richard Burr of NC heads the Senate Intel Committee. Mark Warner of VA is the ranking Dem.
About three weeks ago Burr tried to quash negative stories about the Trump-Russia connection. Warner’s response was
“I have called Director Pompeo and Chairman Burr to express my grave concerns about what this means for the independence of this investigation and a bipartisan commitment to follow the facts, and to reinforce that I will not accept any process that is undermined by political interference.”

There’s that “grave concerns” phrase again. Burr’s no better than Nunes.
It’s frightening that we have no adults in charge, to do what has to be done. Independent prosecutor, and get to the truth. It will come out eventually… the issue is how much damage can be done by the modern version of the Beverly Hillbilly family in the White House. The republican congress is even worse.
Yes, yes we do. The only remaining question is will we get an actual independent investigation. Nunes is a clown, who has tripped over his own shoelaces. I am quite certain the GOP efforts to delay this will continue, but there is blood in the water now.
The thing that absolutely kills me is that the typical Drumpf supporter loudly proclaims them self to be the protector of motherhood, apple pie, and the flag, claiming they are the greatest patriots ever, and they completely ignore the treasonous ramifications of Tweeto Cheeto selling out this country for a fistful of rubles.
“It is bizarre, the things that are being said. There’s no substation for either what Chairman Nunes said nor is there substantiation for what Congressman Schiff said," McCain said on MSNBC.
How mavericky is he when he’s criticizing Schiff in the same sentence as Nunes? Looks like false equivalence to me.
Nunes: McCain is a traitor to our party. I will do everything in power to protect Russia and Trump.
In the end it has to do with whether Drumpf sinks lower in the polls. Right now he’s reached the point where he looks to be a big drag on Rs in Congress. If that doesn’t improve or gets worse, they will dump him like a hot potato.
I keep hearing calls for an independent investigation.
Can someone explain to me how one could realistically be set up in today’s environment and, assuming one was, what would keep the GOP-led Congress from just sitting its findings?
Indeed. If there is no substantiation to what Nunes said, then Schiff’s comments are quite legit.
And his lips…
It would have to be led by retired figures with a history of working bi-partisanly. Such people still exist, though one wonders where they would find them a generation from now. As for Congress sitting on the findings, ultimately the only possible check on that is the voters.
If you’re a Trump* associate or business your really should have genuine concern that as such you’re now a target of this FBI effort to some degree. Moreover whatever illicit activity they turn up in the course of the investigation will probably be turned over to other enforcement divisions.
I’m glad the republicans are refusing to support congressional oversight, because in doing so they are essentially turning this into a completely criminal investigation outside of their direct control.
But doesn’t it have to be called for, budgeted and empowered by the Congressional majority? And, if yes, what’s the likelihood of that happening?
