Discussion: McCain Slams Obama: We Should Have Stayed In Iraq

Candy, repeat after me: “But, Senator, it was President George W. Bush who negotiated and signed in December 2008 the Status of Forces Agreement that obligated the US to withdraw our forces in 2011. And while the Obama administration tried to renegotiate those terms to keep American forces on the ground longer, the Iraqi government refused to grant immunity to our forces, so no new agreement could be reached. Put plainly, they didn’t want us there, sir.”

McCain predicts like a broken clock has the correct time twice each day. It is beyond sad how America is abused by corrupt lifer pols and horrible, politically-driven old media.

I can’t help but think the U.S. would have been better off if the North Vietnamese had kept McCain. He’d be their problem still.

This is my take on these Sunday talk shows and their choice of guests. I believe that the reason nutters, bullshitters and liars tend to prosper on Sunday news talk shows is that, in part, they can be counted upon to say something intense, forthright and quotable, regardless of whether or not it is even true or have cause and effect values that can be corroborated, and in turn be quoted by other media news outlets - by colleagues. In a sense this is all about THEM talking to each other and not to US.

The Sunday talk mavens’ worst nightmare guest is the thoughtful politician or consequential public figure who say “On the one hand…; but on the other hand; we really can’t say until we have more data” Or, the kiss of death, “David, I can’t answer that question because honestly it’s beyond my scope of knowledge, I can only speculate.” This is why there are few scientists, historians, or thoughtful people of any sort on these kinds of “bullshit theater” type shows. Absolutism is simply better for the pundits’ egos and ultimately better for business.

Remember when the President talked about the troops coming home from Iraq and the Republicans said Obama had nothing to do with it, George Bush negotiated their withdrawal? Now, they say he should have left them. Do Republicans know there are things called digital recorders that preserve their words so we can listen to them at a future time?

I’d say McCain-Feingold, but SCCOTUS (Supreme Corporate Court of the United States) put the kibosh on that one.

McCain missed a real opportunity to be a positive force in American politics in 2009. After his loss, he could have called on his supporters and members of his party to work with the new president to meet the massive economic crisis facing this country. He still held some political capital, and could have used it to help design a better stimulus package and deliver GOP votes (besides those of Snowe, Collins, and Specter) to show that this was a team effort that required a united country. He could have worked towards this and history would have remembered him favorably for it.

Instead, this tired, bitter old man did nothing but become a big part of the problem. Appearing weekly on one Sunday show or another, (thank you, David Gregory) McCain’s sour grapes have become purely acidic in recent years.

Angry, tired, soulless, bitter…some maverick.
