I had a wistful moment while watching McCain in our Parliament (he was a guest) when the opposition leader said that he was welcome during Question Time but it did not guarantee that they (he and the PM) would be any less full on. And they were not. I thought if only Trump had to face a proper Question Time (or PM’s questions in UK Parliament) instead of the way too deferential questions he gets from the media his head would literally explode. There are pros and cons to each of our political systems but the way the Ginger Ninja’s head would melt if he had to stand across the dispatch box from Paul Keating or Gough Whitlam or even Fred Daly would be an argument in favour of parliaments.
And to keep the money laundering going while he is working for the administration. Diamonds are forever.
The NYT is really the Wall Street Times for oligarchs and war mongers.
All the 70-year old man was required to do was to stand still and keep a solemn, respectful look on his face just for a while.
And even that is too much to ask. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was actually singing Take Me Out to the Ball Game there.
You may well have seen this thread by James Fallows (whom I respect a lot). This is pretty close to how I feel about the Times – or more specifically the Times’ political coverage, especially about the Democrats.
I trust the WaPo far more than the Times re political reporting.
TPM reporters: please, please, please stop calling this a back channel! It was a request to set up a covert communication channel using a foreign adversary’s communication system from their facilities… aka espionage.
I just had a look at Keating’s twitter feed (he is our former PM if you do not know) and this was one of his tweets on Saturday. Would love to see him and Ginger Ninja go at it. Ginger Ninja is his term for Trump btw.
John McCain DEFCON ranking system explained:

John McCain is worthless as a Senator. Let’s not fall for his faux “maverick” schtick that never was. Remember forever that he chose Sarah Palin as his running mate and is forever incapable of putting his money where his mouth is, even in an event where the person he’s supposedly pushing back on has labelled his military service as not heroism “because he was captured”.
Flynn and Manafort’s assignment was to bring Kushner into the Russian fold. And boy did he fold without any reservations. Oh, so eager to get on with his new life of espionage and treason as a double agent. I guess it had to seem a lot more glamorous than being forced to be Donald’s home healthcare aide and caddie?
And then there is the Kushner Family’s long history of crime and punishment with regards to money laundering, banking fraud and racketeering to consider. Like father; like son? With a little more ambition and the desire to see if he could put one over on everyone?
Why do rich fratboys think they are so clever and will succeed where other grifters always end up getting caught?
He does love to sit on the fence and squawk like a crow to get attention.
Who gives a crap what John McCain says. He would vote to betray his country if asked to do so by the Republican leadership. He talks a good game but the old man has lost his courage.
I was being facetious myself. And there were a few signals of that in the comment. And I remember his choice for running mate. But thanks anyway for being a finger-wagging scold. People love us progressives for that quality, I can assure you.
McCain keeps talking but he’s not DOING anything about the Orange Menace. No more talk, we want action Senator McCain!
I really think Kushner is trying to keep important stuff away from Donald because he knows what a duffus Donald is and that he’s likely to spill stuff that should stay secret.
The sea was angry that day, my friends, like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli…
Please retire John and save your children and memory as a hero any more disgrace
John McCain suffers from the same condition that Colin Powell suffered from, and it’s a condition that stems from their long service in the military: Chain-of-Commanditis—an innate, reflexive compulsion to do exactly what you’re told by your superiors regardless of their stupidity, even when you’re not in the active military any more.
The GOP is a corpse of a political party in the last stages of putrefecation.
I think the GOP is big enough that even if the putrefaction has gotten a good start, it will take a long time for the entire carcass to be consumed. The problem is that the build-up of noxious gases of decomp will inevitably result in explosive decompression, and everybody in the vicinity gets nailed.
The nomination of Trump signaled that the putrefaction of the GOP was well under way, and his subsequent election was the first explosive event. There will be ongoing explosions as the putrefaction proceeds in other parts of the carcass.
That wasn’t my finger wagging! Points taken.
OK sorry. I should take Poe’s law into account when I’m being facetious. But honestly I’m willing to bet there are few days that go by when he doesn’t regret signing What’s-her-name up. And he’s done enough funky stuff since then, just posturing and all, that I do think it’s time we start letting the past go and revile him for fresher misdeeds. The old republic could use an honestly serious, patriotic, truth-telling Republican about now, and he could do good service by stepping up and being what he’s pretended to be all these years. But he won’t. As we all know.
