Discussion: Mayor Plans To Combat Glenn Beck's Angry Fans By Donating To LGBT Group

Good.

I am very fond of Salem Mass. I had two divorces and a real estate closing there, and came out ahead (psychically and financially) all three times. Bravo Mayor Driscoll!

The Mayors staff need to be sure to thank the callers for their donation to the LGBT group. That will piss off Becks legion of 50 even more.

This has been done by my local Planned parenthood since time immemorial.

So, these people are fighting for the right of businesses to discriminate against individuals but doesn’t think the city should have the same right to discriminate against the discriminators?

Bravo to the Mayor for turning a negative into a positive. Glenn Beck and his followers act like immature infants.

Freedom…the right to associate with whom you choose. Even Beck has to go with that.

‘right wing radicals’. Not “Christian leaders”… let’s not dignify them, or imply they have anything to do with Christ.

This is what this issue is about? An Elected Official is being harassed because a sectarian college won’t be running an unaffiliated community meeting hall? What next, is Beck going to promote a Christian jihad against the unbelievers because no slight should go unpunished? This is the exact reason why religion should lose it’s tax exempt status, as well as private religious education institutions.

  1. “Freedom… the right to associate with whom you choose.”

  2. Religion… the right to discriminate against the unbeliever.

If 2 conflicts with 1, then #2 trumps. Unfortunately, 2 has a tradition spanning back to at least… forever, while #1 has only grabbed hold since the Enlightenment.

Letter to mayor@salem.com

Dear Mayor Driscoll: I write to express my admiration and support for your principled stand against the absurd and inappropriate complaints of Glenn Beck and his ilk. You are absolutely right to insist that Gordon College sever its ties with the City and I fully support your decision.

As a born-and-bred Marbleheader, I can even express appreciation for an old high-school football rival  I don’t like it when carpetbagging media jackasses try to bully people in my state.

Thank you again.

all the very best,

Dr CJS (MHS class of '77)

OF ALL THE FILE PHOTOS OF GLEN BECK YOU MUST HAVE, WHY DID YOU PICK ONE OF HIM IN FRONT OF AN ISRAELI FLAG? Seems a little suspicious to me.

The article has nothing to do with Jews or Israelis. And quite ironic that the article is about LGBT discrimination. Polling shows that of all ethnic groups in the US, American Jews are the most supportive of LGBT rights, and Israel is more supportive of LGBT rights than most countries in the world, including the US. Defenders and apologists for Hamas should examine more closely their record when it comes to LGBT and women’s rights before identifying with them. And for all those who equate Israel with right-wing politics in the US, please note that a Pew poll released this week found that 71% of Israelis trust President Obama. Yet why does the press continue to shower attention on Sheldon Adelson, Glen Beck and others of their ilk as if they are in tune with the mainstream views among Jews in the US and Israel. With the defeat of Eric Cantor, there is not a single Jewish GOP member of Congress any more.

That’s probably Glenda’s entire listenership. Those 250-watt locals on 1610 to 1700 don’t get out so well.
