Discussion: Mattis On Trump's North Korea Tweet: 'We're Never Out Of Diplomatic' Options

How you move the population of Seoul to Australia is a puzzle.

Good point, I was stuck thinking locally.

Preventing Armageddon is a pretty good rationale for oneā€™s job.

Maybe they feel that preventing a disaster is worth sacrificing their reputations.

Ben Carson is the closest thing theyā€™ve got. I hear heā€™s actually pretty good with a scalpel. Just put him in a room alone with Donald for a while, and let him run loose to do what he does best. Iā€™m sure everything would end up fine.
@tena
I would also add that weā€™re in much greater danger if Kelly and Mattis et al., are not there in the WH. Yes, they are engaged in an exercise in futility, but exiting the stage for the Generals is a real dereliction of duty. T rump cannot be left alone.

So there are all of these unstable outbursts and truly mindless utterances - and for stabilizing comments and sound direction we are taking comfort in the leadership being exhibited by a man with the nickname ā€œMad Dogā€?

Just wonder if there are any precautions / potential interventions that are in place to avert any ill-conceived random lashing out by the chief unbalanced one.

Trumpā€™s frustration at not being respected and being told what he can and canā€™t do will boil over one day. When that happens all the handlers in the world wonā€™t keep him from lashing out and making some egregiously lethal decision and insisting it be executed.

Yes I get that totally But itā€™s a far less than good solution to have generals appoint themselves to run the country. The right thing to do would be to go ahead and file an Amendment 25 on him since it is obvious they know.

Yes, what we have now is the second-worst situation.

But the worst situation is unthinkable.

If only.

ā€œWe are never out of diplomatic solutions,ā€

Hereā€™s a diplomatic solution for you:

ā€œThe President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanorsā€.

In the immediate future, yes.

However, you start looking down the road at some of the precedent that is being set and god help us. Weā€™ll get a real Nazi next time and he or she will know what to do and have the means.

This, there is a god damn lunatic running the White House. While what they are currently doing might make that more palatable and might even mitigate it to an extent, but evidently not to the extent of preventing any of the batshit crazy like firing Comey, his immigration orders, pardoning Arpaio, etc., it does nothing to actually fix the ongoing disaster that is, and I repeat, a god damn lunatic running the White House.

Soā€¦ hereā€™s the situation, right? Our nation is now being run, in essence, by a Military Junta, and that seems a better alternative than having our elected Lying Orange Shit-Stain in charge. This is exactly how democracies die.

Thank you.

I hate everything about this because thatā€™s what Iā€™m seeing.

Iā€™m going with rusty Winnebago being floated with Mountain Dew bottles and old truck tire tubes, bound together with dollar-store twine.

The rudderlessness of this vessel is a problem, but itā€™s far from the only problem.

Yes, but itā€™s becoming increasingly hard to think long-term.

All we have is the need to survive the immediate future. Sure it sucks, but here we are.

Agreed, but they longer they stay, the longer until that inevitability occurs. That gives us time to save ourselves. We hope.

No randyabraham. No.

We have to make whatever sacrifices are necessary to save this goddamn democracy and country and form of government.
