Discussion: Massachusetts Cop On Charlottesville Car Crash: 'Hahahaha Love This'

If theyā€™re not gonna fire the cop who posted this comment, he needs to be severely reprimanded and suspended without pay. How quickly we forget the outraged reaction from US police departments a few weeks ago when Trump encouraged cops to act like goons against crime suspects.

Oh, Iā€™m sure it was just a ā€œjokeā€.

I mean, isnā€™t that always their excuse.

Lariviere says heā€™s a ā€œgood man who made a stupid comment.ā€

Stupid?? Running into people purposely doesnā€™t allow for ā€˜Stupidā€™ comments, at any time.

Embarrassed by what my ā€™ old stompinā€™ groundā€™ has become. Frighteningly ignorant people infiltrate the board of the local paper. I know itā€™s not representative of all but there have been far too many black eyes of late. The police officer needs to go, how can anyone so dispassionate be counted on in that role?

Thereā€™s another really terrifying aspect to the Cā€™Ville situation. Gov T-Mac is now saying that the police there felt overwhelmed by the presence of the high powered weaponry of the militia and so they just hung back as long as they could.

Weā€™re talking about local and State police authorities who are intimidated by what this time? First, itā€™s Skittles then itā€™s White supremacist militia.

If the police are going to side with the White supremacists, they need to be rooted out and let go. Since when is seeing the civilians that they were sworn to protect and serve injured or killed funny?

i.e. Heā€™s a fellow racist that let it slip?

What would happen if someone this officer pulled over made a crack about driving over him? Oh wait, we all know what would happen because weā€™re adults and donā€™t joke about violence. But ha ha, weā€™re just humorless libtards.

And speaking of not thinking before you post on public places, does Melania just remember good stuff but not where it came from or think she thought it up on her own?

Well unlike Donald she seem to pull ideas from a good source.

So what are the First Amendment rights of a police officer off duty? The chief should certainly sit him down and tell him he was a damn fool, but beyond that?

We have a nationwide problem with cops who should not be cops. Like this little dude.

Fire the gentleman immediately. Enough of this crap. Either we fight back or we all are going to burn.

I have to believe that a cop has to at least pretend to believe in only doing legal stuff even if as with this guy he apparently doesnā€™t seem to think the laws apply to some folks, and even seem to encourage illegal activity.

It goes to the mind set of a police officer who is intrusted to protect the innocent.I would worry about his reaction during a peaceful demonstration that he may not agree with

Agreed completely. I always hear that cops need more training, etc. to sensitize them to certain situations. I disagree. Cops like this canā€™t be trained to be anything other than what they are - sadistic snowflakes who immediately start whining when people call them out on their sh*t.

Officer Conrad Lariviere has a constitutional right to make stupid racist comments.

Officer Conrad Lariviere does not have a constitutional right to be a policeman.

ā€¦when does inaction become complicity?

I suppose thereā€™s room for a debate on him being a ā€œgood manā€ but there really isnā€™t any on whether the remark was stupid. It wasnā€™t. It was a vicious and monstrous comment. Stupidly did not author it. It allowed it but the manā€™s inner self came up with the words. This guy thinks like that. Going public with it was the stupid part.

Iā€™m going to have to go with the stand by lawyer answer ofā€¦it all depends. It depends, was he speaking as a private citizen, does it impact the departmentā€™s mission, public safety, community trust, etc etc.
But those whoā€™ve worked on and not just read those cases know more than I. Springfieldā€™s had and has ongoing issues with their PD & race relations, honesty , etc( Google Jeffrey Asher for starters) so the argument can be made heā€™s a further part of the problem.
