The National Weather Service has just issued a severe shit-storm warning for 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Frosh had asked Hogan for approval to file a lawsuit challenging Trump’s executive order temporarily suspending the refugee program and barring travel from seven predominantly Muslim countries, but Hogan never responded to that request,

Small govt means staying quiet.

Excellent. Dems can use brass knuckles when they want to. I don’t know about the political situation in MD but I’m hoping we can get a Dem back in the gov’s. office again.

This is not the same. They asked the Gov who didnt even respond. He could have said, FU but this is inaction.

I dunno…if we wouldn’t like this if the Rs did it (and they have), is this really the “right” thing to do?

When Governor Hogan (R) never responded in any way? Seems like the next most logical step.

Right?

Maybe not, but it’s a whole different ballgame now, with alternative rules.

Hogan is up for reelection in '18

As always

It will depend on the strongholds n whoever is the candidate.

I hate the Republican mantra: When they go low, we go lower

Hogan has no special love for Trump, and he keeps a low enough profile to appeal to the majority of voters in this Blue State.

Are we sure he is alive? When the AG poked him, he didn’t respond.

Who will be the first state AG to sue Trump and in doing so get access to his tax returns? That is the prize that will vault an AG into a senator’s seat or governorship. Oh, and maybe save the country too . . .

I’m sincerely hoping his previous “But I’m a nice Republican!” approach finally bites him in the ass with everything going on in the last few weeks. Hogan’s schtick has worked in the past (his approval rating even among Democrats is sickening), but I don’t know if he can’t remain quiet about hair gropenfuhrer now and retain those ratings among both parties. Just seeing local (Baltimore to DC suburban region) reaction to the orange menace tells me that those ‘but Hogan’s a nice guy’ perceptions will change if he is perceived as supporting the orange menace and president bannon’s continuing outrages.

People in Baltimore already can’t stand him. I hope the sentiment spreads and that Democrats elsewhere in the state realize that a Republican by any other name is still a fucking Republican.

That’s the $64,000 Question, isn’t it? My answer is, Yes, it’s the right thing to do.

The Republicans threw away the rule book years ago, and the Democrats haven’t had the wherewithal to fight back effectively. Now we’re in a crisis, essentially brought about by both parties. Some Democrats are responding; I only wish Pelosi, Schumer, etc., would work up the nerve to do the same. This is an emergency.

I can

It wouldn’t be surprising if Trump is popular in the western half of the state and places like St Mary’s and Charles counties.

Those were some of the areas that sent Hogan to Annapolis.

As for the popularity, i wonder if folks are in love with him, on account of his Baltimore response.

Hogan is the Connie Morella of Annapolis. No one is ever quite sure how he got this far but he doesn’t irritate enough voters not to get elected.

good news in my book… I don’t really see the harm in doing this at all, many states allow just such a thing. Just curious though, anyone know the details of Maryland law? Why can this pass without the signature of the GOP Gov? Do they have a veto-proof majority in the legislature?

The good news for democrats is it means more state AG offices devoting resources to fighting Trumps agenda. The more offices involved, the more the State AG’s can spllit resources, with one state dedicating more staff to one specific issue and another state dedicating more staff to a seperate issue. More geographic diversity also allows democratic AG’s to be more selective about which federal district, and later which circuit to file individual lawsuits in (using the rights tactic of always filing lawsuits in the most conservative circuit and then a having a single district court judge block enforcement of an action nationwide).

Sweet!
