Mark is unaware that his creation has become a safe haven for bigots, racists, homophobes, misogynists and misanthropes. A Muslim user would be better off ignoring his offer unless of course Mark will be censoring those vile comments that are posted daily.

Point of information. He has pledged to donate $45 billion worth of facebook shares to a for profit LLC which he and his family wholly own, not to some 501(3)©. More on the “family LLC” estate planning dodge…

Zuckerberg and Chan also gave $75 million to San Francisco General Hospital to help fund critical equipment and technology for the biggest public hospital in the City. It will be renamed after them, and the city leaders remain grateful

So he’s taking down all Trump and GOP related Facebook pages?
I worry about what he means by “safe”.
A major problem with the internet is how it allows you to cocoon yourself in a bubble containing only people who see the world exactly the same way you do. It would be trivial to check the “Muslim” box when you join and only ever interact with other Muslims. They stay in their little on-line ghetto, and we stay in our little on-line ghetto. Comforting, perhaps, but it leaves no place to work out the rough edges in a diverse, multicultural society. Hope he doesn’t do Muslims the disservice of making their own little Liberty U-like environment, and set them up for some real shocks when they venture out of it.
Exactly. The Propublica article does a good breakdown. Times of India was more scathing.
Also, this can be very different than Buffet’s pledge, in part he said to prevent his children from being any more the rich scions they are anyway. The Propublica doesn’t cover this angle, but by creating the LLC and putting the shares in there, not only is it the tax dodge, but it can also act as a tax free way of soft transferring that all to their daughter. She reaches maturity and they give her control of the LLC.
I’d also say the the muslim space press statement has at least one other likely angle besides good press for him.
Well I certainly wonder on a daily basis how frightening it must be for american muslims, given the hate-spewing-fear=mongering going on right here in Amerika. I wonder the same for young black males (especially), who live in fear of being stopped by the police for any reason. And finally, I wonder when all this insanity is going to end. I fear that HRC is going to see more of the same that we have seen the last 7 years. It may not be racist driven but it isn’t going to be pretty.
Republicans never accept the results of an election when a Democrat is elected. They spend the entire time trying to delegitimize the president. They did it to Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton (still doing it to Obama) and it will be more of the same with Hillary. I sure hope we can at least take back the Senate.

Considering Facebook in the past has been blasted for refusal to remove abusive comments and pages I’ll believe it when there’s actually some action.
