Discussion: Mark Cuban Apologizes To Trayvon Martin's Family For 'Hoodie' Comment

Discussion for article #223081

It could have been worse. While he was “apologizing” (he only apologized for the “hoodie” references; he stands by the substance of the interview), Cuban could have attacked Magic Johnson for not giving as much money to black people as Cuban does.

ai yi yi… can we please stop with the grievance parade. this daily routine of someone saying something stupid/outrage ensues/apologies all around is so fucking tiresome… but, it’s an awesome distraction from the real issues that people should be focusing their energies on.

Maybe one day we can all live in glass houses

Sounds like Cuban recognizes his own bigotry and is able to work on it. That puts him ahead of most people.

Yet another rich old white guy making young black kids blame their hoodies for the way white people fear them.

Maybe I don’t understand the purpose of Twitter but if you have to write 5 tweets as one long sentence because you can only get in 140 characters per tweet, why not write a fucking op-ed in some newspaper or blog somewhere to explain yourself and give your views?

I see he’s using the politician’s favorite method of explaining without really apologizing…He’s pathetic. Still, corporate media will say he apologized. To Trayvon Martin’s family??? Why not to all black families that have teenage sons who get targeted wearing a sweatshirt with a hood? It’s boneheads like Cuban that keep stereotypes of menacing black youth alive. And it’s the Zimmerman’s of the world that pathologically latch onto that particular stereotype as a personal threat to their safety, enabling idiots to target those very same youth.

I don’t get where there is an apology…Perhaps he should apologized to the black players he employs. I’m sure some of the Mavericks players have teenage sons that wear hoodies.

He really needs to get out more. Billionaires in gated communities, with full security details, shouldn’t throw stones.

“Yet another rich old white guy”? Damn, I’m gettin’ old.

More interviews, you freaking egomaniacs! Keep talking, you’re all naturals at this TV blabber stuff! Really! Would I lie to you?

Mark Cuban is evolving. He realizes he has racists feelings and is trying to deal with them. Isn’t that what we want, for whites to admit they have prejudice views, admit it, and try to correct it. Good on Cuban!

Age is relative. Relative to Treyvon-aged kids, Cuban is old.

And so are you and I.

There, the proper process of how a billionaire bigot offends and apologizes. It’s all in the approach; on bended knee in a T-shirt and using Hoodie instead of Cotton.

If I see a black kid in a hoodie on my side of the street, I’ll move to the other side of the street," he said. "If I see a white guy with a shaved head and tattoos, I’ll move back to the other side of the street.

And so will my team of bodyguards!

Honestly, I didn’t really have a problem with Cuban’s comments, substantively (I’m black, for what that’s worth). Of course I don’t LIKE what he said but he’s being honest, and he’s trying to contribute in good faith. This is more than I can say for most rich white people who pretend racism isn’t even a thing. Sure, Cuban has more work to do, but that was part of his point.

Word. Methinks the publicity-addicted Cuban felt the need to insert himself into some sort of “controversial moment”.

Racism, for millions, is not a “controversial moment” into which a person can glide in and out, as, apparently, is the case for Cuban.

we have to stop dissecting every word people say and start understand the body of their work. there are billionaires that are jerks, racist, and good people - I took his comments as we all come to the table of business with our own stereotypes and its up to the individual to keep an open mind if they want to be successful

Getting old???

mr, cuban has made clear in other forums that he is a self-important billionaire jerk

he is clever enough, however, to catch himself mid-spew and add a scary-white-guy reference to deflect criticism.
