Discussion: Mandatory Union Fees Upheld By Deadlocked Supreme Court

Hmm. Oh the GOP will spins this in their favor. I can hear Mitch now, “See!? Do you see how important it is that the 9th and deciding vote be chosen by the People!?? Imagine if Obama is allowed to nominate a LIB!? We’d LOSE all these important cases,”

Interesting read…

“A four-four court functions. It’s functioned in the past. It will function this time. Just on the really controversial issues they will probably put them off for a year. It’s not the end of the world,”

Plucky, about an hour ago:

[And it’s one of the many reasons I could never entertain voting for Sanders, because these people would turn on him with same ferocity in which they turned on Obama and this country can’t afford another repeat of '10 and '14.][1]

@beattycat @538liberal

With context and everything.

ETA: a couple hours after her original post, @pluckyinky [clarified to say][2] that she would, in fact, vote for Sanders were he to be the D nominee in the fall. I applaud her for her devotion to keeping a R out of the White House. I encourage @xyxox and @tena to do the same.

I’m certain that whoever underwrote this will find another plaintiff looking for a free ride.

Squirm McConnell squirm —

but they won’t run it until next year.

It’s too much of a headache and the odds would still be against them…

I read that in the actual thread and I took it to mean in context she was referring to the nomination fight. I have never seen her say she’d allow her vote to be used in such a way as to help elect a Trump.

Either way, if you invoke someone’s name and summarize what they said, they should be tagged and given the chance to respond.

I applaud Plucky for burrowing so deeply under your thin, thin skin (albeit accidentally). You’re engaging in middle school chicanery that borders on stalking. Learn to ignore the voices in your head and toss your pluckyinky voodoo doll and resentment shrine into the rubbish bin where it belongs.

Thank you. (Sighs). I hope Plucky thinks long and hard about that statement and what it means. Please know that I, for one, will vote for Bernie Sanders if he is the Democratic nominee (just stating it again for emphasis to others who are reading). The Supreme Court is far too important, IMO, to risk a Trump or a Cruz sitting in the Oval Office.

OT Question: Is anyone else experiencing issues with the upgraded system, with regards to notifications that another person has ‘Responded’ to you? I’m getting the ‘Heart’ notifications (at least most, but not all) but not any notifications someone ‘Replied’ to me. I am getting notified when someone uses the ‘@’ then my screen name, but that’s it. I have looked over the preferences page but there’s nothing that directly mentions ‘Reply.’ This is the same in Chrome and IE. Anyone? Thanks.

Carlos, in general, I agree with many of your comments. In this case you missed the mark by specifying others. this is fruitless, (and inaccurate at least in the case of Plucky…)

That said, I share your frustration regarding the broad brush stereotyping of Bernie supporters.

The “BernieBros” business was/is every bit the B.S. that the Email business is for HRC. Yet her supporters feel free to paint Bernie supporters with this brush when it suits their needs (most often the day after a Bernie primary/caucus win). They also tend to gang up.

this is every bit as distasteful as the purported Bernie bros behavior.

the worst part for me is the lack of self awareness.

I’ve been attacked for noting that the Email tech guy pleading the 5th and subsequently given immunity looks bad to those less engaged politically while noting I think there isn’t much to the “scandle”. Even saying the same as HRC said herself that it was avoidable and a mistake was something some supporters could not let go by with their personal list of gripes regarding Bernie.

Additionally, To jump on anyone claiming they won’t vote for HRC if she is the eventual nominee is counterproductive. If one’s candidate does well but comes up short, it is natural to want to vent that frustration. There are a few stages of grief before acceptance, and to harp on that venting will only push people away. We can afford disappointment in the ranks, but can’t afford to alienate (especially the young folks just coming into political engagement)

Donald trumps nomination and antics will be enough to bring Bernie folks back, into the democratic fold, be patient.

Certainly comparing HRC to Trump makes it easier for me to overcome my disappointment and accept having to vote for her.

Huge thanks again to Justice Scalia for still being dead.

Oh, just stop. We are on a public forum. Plucky expresses her opinions, I express mine, you express yours. If it makes you feel better to suggest that I’m perhaps mentally ill (“voices in your head”), or perhaps criminal (“bordering on stalking”), knock yourself out. But it’s really an assholish thing to do.

If I have ever ganged up on you about your support of Bernie Sanders and ridiculed decision, I am sincerely sorry. You’re right. It’s unproductive, even counterproductive at times.

I personally support Hillary Clinton. With regards to the Democratic nomination, may the best person win. After that, I will support and vote for the winner.

jonney-5, did you read Plucky’s post? How is my statement inaccurate?

I will of course vote for HRC in the likelihood that she becomes the nominee, and so on and so forth.
@beattycat There are plenty of HRC supporters, yourself included, whom I respect, because I feel that you give a fair hearing to the Democratic opposition. There are even those who say what I consider to be inaccurate and indefensible things about Sanders supporters (e.g., brooklyndweller) because they are still willing to engage in a dialog regarding the issues. But there are others such as daveyjones64 and, yes, even the sainted Plucky, who seem to have no particular attachment to any honest exploration or description of the opposition’s positions and motivations. That sort of thing drives me a bit up a wall.

Yo, everyone, let’s stick to the topic and stay away from micro-analyzing individual motivations and nit-picking what we think they might have said.
