Well, based on this article from a few days ago, it seems like the FBI may have learned of the existence of the unit from the AP. It may not have been that easy for them to find on their own. But considering we don’t know what Mueller knows or how he knows what we don’t know that he knows, it’s all conjecture whether Manafort would have been able to hide it or not.

Why he got away with his scams for so long is a worthwhile question.
Likely two reasons:
- In dealing with the Trump campaign, he was dealing with people even more stupid than he was.
- In dealing with the Russians, they had (and may still have) enough juice to protect his dumb ass.

True, but he did all the money laundering and tax evasion he’s now charged with, from right here in the good ol’ us of a. All while helping the vilest of autocratic regimes. Just seems like that should have caught a Special Agents’ attention a bit sooner

well, yeah. Them 2 were so used to living afoul of the law that it was normal to them. They thought, how could they who were hiding behind the curtain all these years and felt protected in their twisted view being ‘law abiding’. Tortured logic.
