Worth recalling (o.k. looking up in Wikipedia) that heās a 78 year old Reagan appointee. Heās handed down more than 1K decisions in his eon on the bench.
He slapped John Walker Lindh, the hapless āAmerican Taliban,ā with 20 years. This provides a convenient yardstick to measure Manafort against.

My own view is that in the absence of the customary remorse; in view of the dicking around with prosecutors and the court, the prosecution assertion that the defendant is a habitual, impenitent criminal has real substance and will make it very difficult for the judge to give less than 16 years.

Ellis telegraphed in other ways his continued skepticism about special counsel Robert Muellerās Russia probe, saying at one point āthere is much discussionā about why the special prosecutor has the Manafort case.
Ellis said that he concluded that it was legitimate for Mueller to bring the case but that didnāt mean he had decided the āwisdomā or the āappropriatenessā of the special counsel having the authority to bring the case.
If I was a cynic Iād say heās earning his āpayā.

He also told Dolapska (sp?) he would pass along information to make Oleg āwholeā and Manafort was in the meeting with the Russians regarding lifting sanctions and Russian dirt on Hillary. Why didnāt Mueller continue down the pass to convict Manafort for conspiring with the Russians?
This judge has been a grandstanding asshole from day one. The Special Counsel mandate by Rosenstein states Mueller, āā¦anything related to the Russian investigation or other crimes the Special Counsel determines.ā Why is this judge acting as though he has more power than the DAG?

This judge has been a grandstanding asshole from day one. Rosenstein gave Mueller a mandate to prosecute crimes related to Russian election interference/conspiracy or any other crimes tangential to the investigation. This judge thinks he should what, overrule DAG?
