Discussion: Manafort Denies Mueller's Witness Tampering Allegations

Nothing prohibits my client, Mr. John Herbert Dillinger, from entering a bank, or possessing large sums of money in the form of cash in cloth bags, or from shouting in public spaces to encourage fellow citizens to look after their personal safety. And the second amendment gives him an absolute and unfettered right to carry and use guns. The police have greatly over-reached by charging my client with crimes, or suggesting that he violated his probation simply because he entered a bank and carried out a large amount of money, even if he didn’t actually have an account there.

These people really are the embodiment of Jonathan Swift’s statement in Gulliver’s Travels that: “there was a society of men among us, bred up from their youth in the art of proving, by words multiplied for the purpose, that white is black, and black is white, according as they are paid.”

I’m just impressed that he can keep up that dopey “i’m so innocent” smile whilst performing this balletic attitude.

I bet my bottom dollar that he was promised a pardon. How can he be innocent if they have proofs of his malfeasance?

This link goes to Katy Tur- good piece, part of this information was likely pulled in for Rachel, but this link goes to the panel Tur guides while she subs for MTPDaily

Next video in the queue is Maddow. But Katy’s piece is brilliant too.

Manafort has had a couple of gait corrections as he steps off the curb at the courthouse… don’t know if it’s just that he’s not watching his step (cameras and all), or if there is a depth perception feedback not functioning well. Maybe those ankle bracelets are differing weights???

Slightly OT: I particularly love this stock photo of Manafort, smiling painfully while he is obviously sprinting from the courtroom to his car. Considering what he did in Ukraine, he won’t suffer nearly enough, even if he ends his days in jail.

He will do better in court as he will promise to pinky swear, without crossing his fingers behind his back.

Rick Gates—aka his right hand guy—stayed on through the inauguration. It was Daily contact, through Gates.

The NYT ran a story about the Ukrainian opposition uncovering the “secret payment ledger”—to the tune of $11.5 million — and Manafort “resigned” less than 48 hours later. Huge coincidence, to hear the Trumpologists on StateTV tell it.

Costanza was stupid and self-serving, but didn’t cavort with mobsters and Russian oligarchs (redundant I realize). The only similarity with Manafort is the self-serving part.

“Mr. Manafort, please take your other hand out of your pocket…”

Is it it just me or does this filling read like a Press Release tailored for Fox News rather than a legal filing?

IANAL, but this seems tailor made to piss off the Judge- who did, in fact, limit who Manafort could talk to (gag order) and who has already upbraided Manafort once for trying to evade that order- with the very person indicted along with him in the witness tampering case.

Manafort’s lawyers must have drafted this response before they became aware that the grand jury had indicted their client for the witness tampering and conspiracy alleged in the bail motion. In returning an indictment, the grand jury necessarily found that there was probable cause to believe that Manafort had committed the crimes, so the claim that Manafort’s contacts with witnesses were “irrelevant, innocuous and unsupportive [which I don’t think is a word]” of the witness tampering allegations is flat wrong. Those contacts are now at the center of a new indictment, and my bet is Manafort is going to jail next week.

Every other day, President Man-Baby presents pardon ideas in an effort to keep Manafort sunny-side up. What President Man-Baby may not know, and his lackies may be afraid to tell him is – he can not pardon a conviction of the state of New York and the state of Virginia. Mueller has this all sewn up.

What Mueller, a man of the law - does NOT understand, is this president has complete contempt for the rule of law. He will either look the other way when manafort slips out to Argentina or just fires Rodstein and appoints a toady to the Justice department. The Rethug congress is going to be doing a lot of nothing - and this is how this once great country will come crashing down.

Hail the Leader! May he rule forever! (on my way out the door - hello Australia)

If I recall correctly, he was allowed to communicate with such people but only through his lawyers to insure witness tampering was unlikely, which means he not only broke the law in regards to witness tampering he also broke his bail requirements by not going through his lawyers.

He wants to fly away, but no matter how hard he tries, the ankle bracelets are holding him down.
