Discussion for article #247366
Thinning the herd. One gone for good, one gone for 4 years. Win-win.
A “Jackass-style stunt.”
Yep, that about sums it up.
This is like “Honey, does this milk smell off?”, except with bullets.
How is that “second degree murder”? It seems more like a manslaughter sort of thing.
“fatally struck Mitchell in the chest”
What was he wearing, a bullet-proof cummerbund?
That was my reaction. Pretty lame BPV that a chest shot takes you out.
He didn’t plead Accidental Stupid by Affluenza? Shit lawyer. He should appeal on grounds of incompetent counsel.
I’m not seeing the 2nd degree murder here. Accidental homicide? Reckless negligence resulting in manslaughter? Certainly.
Murder indicates a level of malice intent that just doesn’t seem to be present. Seems overly harsh and overly aggressive prosecution. I’m not trying to defend the stupidity by guns here, but it’s a worrying precedent to set. There are a lot of non-gun accidents (or, “incidents”) equivalent to this that can now be considered “murder” when they are not. Really makes me wonder if he would have been so charged & prosecuted if he was more white.
Who says good jobs are being sucked out of the economy? There seem to be plenty of openings for bulletproof vest testers.
Off-topic, but maybe the best way to thin the herd is to to give them what they want. If the Republican open carry people think open carry is such a great idea, let them all open carry at their convention. When the “angry” delegates on one or more sides don’t get their guy, well then, let’s see how good they are at keeping their fingers off their triggers when one of their drunk delegate colleagues or Nugent or somebody goes all OK Corrall on the rest.
Shouldn’t the NRA pull a Trump and pay this guys court costs and support his family while he’s away? After all, he’s doing what the NRA wants…using his God-given right to shoot a gun…no matter how stupidly.
Trump has committed to eliminating all gun free zones in the US if elected. We’ll see if he keeps that promise and allows them on White House tours.
Seemed like a really good idea. Hard to believe something went wrong.
Yeah, except that we have to live in that herd too.
[Darnell Mitchell put on a bulletproof vest in his friend Mark Ramiro’s basement and told Ramiro to shoot him in the chest in what the Sun described as a "Jackass-style stunt."But Ramiro aimed the .22-caliber gun too high and fatally struck Mitchell in the chest. ]
And the gene pool was so much cleaner at the end of that day.
- He’s black.
- It’s Baltimore.
Four years for one accidental death!
Contrast this outcome with the “Affluenza” kid’s (Four killed. Probation).
I’m going to guess this guy had a Public Defender.
In this system, the prosecutor gets to decide what it is, and if you don’t take the plea bargain offered, you get to go to court and defend against a much stiffer charge with a very low chance of winning.
A .22 at that.
In the spirit of this story, I’m happy to report that the GA Legislature has passed a law allowing students to carry guns on campus. What could possibly go wrong?
