Democracy requires participation and cynicism does not encourage it. And there are a lot of people who don’t vote because they are too cynical - they think it’s useless. That is a democracy killer.

Yes, and then you end up with people like Stephen Miller having a say in things. Democracy means accepting a 21st century Goebbels whispering in the ear of your President. A President you bequeathed yourself by allowing a few million other Stephen Millers having a say in things.
We elected a President that explicitly PROMISED to hate on Hispanics and Muslims.

Ignoring of course that said President only came to power because of a “check” put in place because the Founders shared your distrust of the common man.

The Founders are lionized far too much. For all the lofty words they wrote they were still a bunch of 1%-er slave owners, and no doubt the government they designed has not coincidentally continued to serve the 1%-er slave owners.

You gotta love Fran Lebowitz. She appeared quite a few times as a judge on “Law and Order”, and I honestly believe she would be a stellar addition the actual US Supreme Court. After all, Ms. Lebowitz also gave us this undying truth:

My one great “Brush with Greatness” was startling Fran Lebowitz on a dark street in Manhattan. I was walking to my friend’s house from the subway with a really loud wheeled suitcase – it was back in the days when they put four wheels on the long side and the suitcase had a kind of leash rather than a handle. I rumbled around a corner and came face-to-face with a woman who flinched and looked very alarmed, and I tried to look apologetic as I passed. I got to the end of the block before I realized “I just scared Fran Lebowitz!”
