Why the use of the word ānotoriety?ā I donāt think it fits.
Why this article at all?
Iām sorry - but a former sitting POTUS will out-rank her by orders of magnitude.
Too bad, so sad.
It has been decades. Lewinsky should not have been uninvited. She probably has more interest in the event than Clinton, maybe he should have been uninvited. Maybe all of us should cancel any subscriptions we might have to Town and Country.
The operative word is former. He is old news. He has had his day in the sun.
Okay. Donāt invite her in the first place, then.
Iām wondering why she was on the guest list to begin with.
@ronbyers, if anyone has had a day in the sun, it is Monica. Former Presidents, no matter how heinous or beloved, will always outweigh a third rate, D-list celebrity, Emily Post notwithstanding.
Iām suddenly nostalgic, living as we all do in an incomprehensible nightmare world, for the days of tender innocence when it would be awkward to have a power couple and an intern the guy got a blowie from twenty years ago at the same party. It just seems quaint now, in a way I weep for with longing and sorrow.
I donāt think I know anyone who actually has a subscription to this mag. Itās the kind of thing I see lying around hair salon waiting rooms. I just hate to see Lewinsky being used once again to generate punchlines, think Iāll check in with the writer to say so.
What does Monica Lewinsky have to do in any way with philanthropy or āsocial change?ā The cult of celebrity is bizarre, witness Donald Trump, its most grotesque example.
This seems unnecessary. Hundreds of people at events like these. They neednāt have even seen each other. I actually doubt Bill Clinton would have required this.
Why not trust both individuals to conduct themselves with some class and dignity, actually be seen to shake hands and exchange a few brief pleasantries? Bury the past, move on. Itās what adults do. Iād like to think each is capable of doing so. Give them the chance.
Monica Lewinsky just muddles up the entire sexual harassment discussion. I have precious little sympathy for her. I can understand that she wants to rehabilitate her life, but living quietly would be a better choice.
The only silver lining in the Monica cloud is that there is a precedent to depose a sitting President, which may come in handy.
I know what you mean, itās not a big important thing, certainly. But in the Trump era of cartoonishly horrible villainy itās mildly interesting for being a gray-area thing. Presumably there are reasons for Lewinsky to be there, just as there are for the Clintons. Is it necessarily an awkward thing to have all three? If it is, why should Lewinsky bear the burden all these years later? Itās like a law-school problem transferred to the etiquette world.
She also forever made offering a woman a cigar a more interesting intro in a bar.
You say you understand she wants to rehabilitate her life, part of it may be by attending social events regardless of who else is attending. The phrase slut shaming came into being because of her encounters with Clinton (and they were used by Rs to impeach him and later pound Hillary with them), so this article about a nothing event was totally unnecessary and Iāve told the writer so.
And right on time to illustrate my point
She also forever made offering a woman a cigar a more interesting intro in a bar.
Magazine acted badly. I believe that he bears the primary responsibility for the affair, and that she was mistreated back then. That said, Iām tired of her popping up every so often to whine about some perceived injustice.
He was invited to be a speaker. That is not just a guest. I think however it āisā stupid and rude for T&C to āuninviteā her. They have probably spent two decades avoiding each other, they couldāve both worked NOT to be in photo distance of each other.
