Discussion: Local Tennessee GOP Chair Defends Meme Mocking Ocasio-Cortez

"Speaking as a Republican, this doesn’t represent me or my beliefs. Please do better. Please be better.”

Wouldn’t “Stop it, Now!” be a better statement. It is like he is performing quality control.

“newsletter had been sent by Williamson County GOP Chair Debbie Deaver”

And she did not think this was controversial.

“The Republican Party of Williamson County will not let those outside our organization tell us what we can or can’t say.”"

Well you can say what you wish. However, you have to suffer the consequences of your free speech as well. This sort of tells me that she does not understand the concept of free speech.

Up next, a Republican tries to explain why “wetback” is a perfectly acceptable term of endearment for our friends from across the border. I am sort of waiting for that one by the way. Surprised it has not popped up yet.

“Everybody funny, now you funny too”

Due GOP spin firm to explain this was taken out of context, threatening to sue authors of any reports to the contrary…

Yeah, the level of terror she inspires is…impressive.

“Allowing a few people on the left to whip up media outrage over political satire is just another example of the left manipulating the press to present their narrative as truth and all other views as wrong or worse racist,” she wrote.

And people wonder why there are zero funny right wing comedians.

It’s a sign of their deep-seated racism. It’s fuckin’ nuts that they aren’t even bothering to hide it anymore. On the one hand, it makes it easier to spot and shun the racists. On the other hand, sheesh!

And no one can tell the listener exactly how to take what they’ve just heard. Sorry, but your first amendment right ends when the words leave your lips. And if someone doesn’t take what you’ve said exactly as you thought you meant it, that doesn’t mean they’re an a–hole. It means what you said wasn’t accepted by the listener. Too bad for you. Take the consequences. That was a rehearsed response, probably frequently said in the presence of like-minded individuals. Her mistake was saying it publicly where the response couldn’t be controlled.

I don’t know… I think the joke is funnier when the protagonists are two stupid old white men.

Conservatives have been in full attack mode with Ocasio-Cortez, probably because she does represent exactly what they fear the most. Change.

It should be pointed out that you or I can think a joke is stupid, crass, mean-spirited, and not particularly funny without declaring ourselves “offended” (or, much more obnoxiously, having somebody else declare my offense on your or my behalf).

So that type of concern trolling can shove off.

Who’s going to win this boxing match? In a battle of wits and much of anything else, it’s no contest.

The Right no more has a “deep fear” of AOC then the left had a “deep fear” of Sarah Palin.

Is he going to unlock the chamber door with his little dick?

For just a moment I thought it was Williamson County, Texas, and it made perfect sense. (For what it’s worth, that bastion of conservative refugees from Austin is being politically subsumed now by the ever-growing People’s Republic. “Williamson County GOP” has been the “oh, get it” part of the story for as long as I’ve lived here. And now they are dealing with real demographic fear to boot.)
