Discussion: Local Paper Says It's Confirmed Pence Will Be Trump's VP, Doesn't Cite Source

Well it makes sense from Pence’s and Trump’s perspectives.

From the Pence perspective, his political career is over. He is facing an uphill battle to retain his Governorship in deep-red Indiana because of the economic calamity his social policies brought down on the state. Nothing to lose, might as well gamble to fail “up” instead of just give up.

From the Trump perspective, first, Pence didn’t say “No”. Pence massages the Orange Ego just like the other sycophants. And Pence might gain Trump favor in the money wing (the Koch wing) of the GOP so that Trump might actually be able to fund a campaign in the Fall.

Of course, Pence is a horrible candidate, who has proven himself unable to withstand scrutiny and make tough decisions. Would be a horrendous choice as a VP, but electorally, VP picks rarely matter except when they are truly truly horrendous and convey an inability on the part of the P candidate to make a good and sound decision under pressure (Palin). I don’t think Pence will be a major force in this election, unlike, say, Gingrich or Christie would have been. In Veepstakes terms, Pence is an October candidate - helping Trump get elected (by bringing in Koch funding) but not giving any kind of positive convention splash and being a dead weight boat anchor post-election.

And the total lack of bringing up any legislation in 12 years while in the House as an Indiana Representative…

I think Pence was so giddy and excited to be able to get out of Indiana and be the VP pick he couldn’t contain himself and leaked it to the press himself on condition of anonymity. What?? It’s possible.

I openly wonder if Pence comes with $500 million in Koch money.

Was this a political marriage of two houses?

I have earlier suggested the VP position was for sale, given Trump’s money issue, “Follow the money”

(if Trump can’t find the money for airlifting Sarah Palin to Cleveland he must be in deep trouble - if not SP is unwell )

Bingo. I hadn’t thought about the trial balloon possibility. Since Trump prides himself on changing his mind, if the reaction is negative he can just pivot by tomorrow.

Someone in the Indiana Republican Party Politburo will know for sure. If Pence is the pick, by state law they will have to come up with a new candidate for governor by tomorrow. I imagine they’ve known for a while and it’s amazing that they’ve been able to hold it in this long.

Pence is probably the best choice Trump can make. His baggage is all stuff that social conservatives will eat up, which solidifies their support (not that they have anywhere to go, but it makes them think Trump really is with them). Aside from the recent LGBT fiasco, no one has really heard of him, and he can brush that off as from the legislature and say how he worked to draw it back. He’s not going to outshine Trump, and he brings links to money that so far have not been going to Trump. Manafort is having a big effect on making Trump’s campaign functional, which seems like a minor miracle.

Don’t take any of this as me thinking Pence is a good choice…he’s going to be right in lockstep with the extremist Republican platform, which would be very bad for the nation. He’s just probably a better option than I would have otherwise expected…Christie and Gingrich would both have damaged Trump’s campaign, Pence won’t hurt it and might help in a couple ways. We’ll see if Trump sticks to this tomorrow.

At one point, Rump said something about being attacked by all sides and he’d want his VP to run as “an attack dog.” If true, Pence ain’t that. Unless you’re a fundie nut job, he comes across as boring and slightly mentally challenged. He’s also a huge coward being pushed into supporting anti LGBT legislation that made the state a total laughing stock.

I can’t imagine any VP choice by Clinton that couldn’t nail Pence to the wall. What he’s done as Gov. for IN is just that much short of what Brownstain has done for KS or Gov. Pope in NC.

“Good Lord!” is about all I can say.

So Pence is choosing political suicide as a way to transition into the private sector. Interesting.

and in the last five minutes alone, I’ve seen a lot of negative publicity (doofus quotes, abhorrent policies) coming out about Pence. Not sure he’s such a “safe” choice.

Anger growing out of frustration and feeling like he’d been used like a $2 whore drove Christie to saunter behind Trump at today’s rally with a Bic lighter…and hilarity ensued:

Yep. And with Pence comes Kochdollars…or is it Koch Petrodollars? He’s already bought and paid for by them…so for the RNC (who want Mitch Daniels back as Gov.), the Kochs and Drumpf, it’s a win, win, win. Too bad Pence is such a fucking boring and ill-equipped rightwing fanatic for the job. But then again, Drumpf will never have to worry about being upstaged by this asshole.

Btw, I believe this frees up Mitch Daniels for Governor because even though he was already the Governor, having serving two terms, there has been time in-between Governorships where he’s allowed to run again if he so chooses. Every state is different in this regard according to their State Constitution.

In many ways, he reminds me of RoJo of WI but with less wealth. Pence represents every nasty, pig ignorant, fundie, racist meme you can dig up in 2016.

Just rank stupidity.
