Discussion: Lindsey Graham Throws 'Not A Scientist' Line Back At GOP Climate Deniers

"…he would make Republicans in Congress “step up to the plate” on immigration, where Obama has “failed miserably.”

Lindsey… you can drag a horse to water, push him in the river, hold his head under water until he drowns… but you can’t make him drink

Welcome to the current Republican party.

Republicans, as we know, are NOT going to be held hostage by facts! …For example, THIS typical Republican listening, in that special GOP Con&Bagger way, to all the information on climate change…

When Lindsay stops being a raving hypocrite by denouncing marriage equality and gay rights in general—while being so deep in the closet that he’s found his Junior High prom dress—we’ll stop making remarks about his sexuality.

I don’t care who he sleeps with, either—or if he sleeps with no one.
I care a great deal about his overt homophobia, which is self-loathing of the worst and most destructive kind.

The phrase you seem to have missed:

This may offer a brief respite from the persistent rise of global temperatures…

Brief respite. In other words, weather can vary a lot, even while the direction of climate change remains fairly steady. They’re talking about a few cold winters, not a return of Ice Age glaciation.

I know these concepts are tough to grasp, but give it a try.

Edit: BTW, citing articles in the Daily Caller does not exactly demonstrate your dedication to objective truth. It’s a bit like citing Alex Jones in your doctoral dissertation.

Absolutely spot on! People such as Graham, like Larry Craig before him, deserve the derision they receive. They have, for nothing more than political as well as personal gain, foisted hate and hurt on people who were courageous enough to stand up and be who they are proudly and openly. Quite obviously, political hacks and demagogues such as Graham have NO hesitation to heap scorn on and invade, with malice, the privacy of others to further their political careers and agendas. Such closeted cowards as Graham and Craig are worthy of little more THAN scorn. The people who control the nation’s political and legal systems often and obviously have different standards for themselves. ____“People have the right to privacy,” Barney Frank famously said, “But they don’t have the right to hypocrisy.”

There aren’t “set[s] of scientists” that you get to “decide” who to believe. There is just science, and scientists, and the data which they all work with and attempt to understand. Anthropogenic global warming as a real, and well-studied phenomena is not something that’s in direct conflict with any of the links you’ve posted. What you’re saying here is the equivalent of a physician telling somebody that despite clear evidence of rapidly invasive brain cancer, that they might not have to worry anymore because since they’ve caught a cold they now get to choose which ailment they move forward with, and ignore the other.

How do you not understand this?

My eyebrows went into my hair when I saw the title, couldn’t believe I had read the title correctly. Good for Lindsay, but I still expect him to say something stupid tomorrow.

Actually, it sounds like he’s being acerbic about the Republicans’ unwillingness to do a damned thing. Obama wants to be reasonable, but he’s in the other party, so the Rs dig in their heels. Trump would be a Republican, and completely insane to the point of costing the Republicans any chance to pick up any Hispanic votes for a generation or more - and that would force the Congressional Republicans to be reasonable, just to save their own asses.

Rhetorical question, I presume.

You are so damned predictable with stupid stuff. (As a source, keep in mind, CNN also brings us Don Lemon and Wolfe Blitzer.)

On that note, check out an article with actual facts …

And this awesome statement:

I know you are shocked, shocked to learn that unreliable climate stories appear in U.K. tabloids, the conservative media, and those who cite them without actually talking to leading climate scientists. Often there is a half truth underlying such stories, but in this case it is more like a nano-truth.

As usual, you’re wrong. Check out the link I posted below in response to your stupid “evidence”. [eye roll]

Lets make this simple:

Which part of my above statement do I need to explain to you?

BTW, the Daily Caller only reports a scientific study published by NATURE, one of the oldest and most respected scientific journals in the world, but evidently you know more than they do so keep on going

Nature is a interdisciplinary scientific journal, first published on 4 November 1869. It was ranked the world’s most cited scientific journal by the Science Edition of the 2010 Journal Citation Reports, is ascribed an impact factor of approximately 42.4, and is widely regarded as one of the few remaining academic journals that publishes original research across a wide range of scientific fields. Nature claims an online readership of about 3 million unique readers per month. The journal has a circulation of around 53,000 but studies have concluded that on average a single copy is shared by as many as eight people.

EDIT: the same works for @jinx_tpm

Nature is reliable. Your understanding of what the study says, on the other hand, is utterly wrong. I’m guessing you haven’t read it, but are relying on a second-hand, factually inaccurate article about what the study actually says.

This is my polite way of saying that you’re a moron. Keep digging…

And I have an extra shovel he/she/it can use … ah, what the heck, he/she/it is digging fast and stupid just fine without it.

This statement, as I noted above, is a fail in logic. It’s a laughably stupid conclusion to have come to, and is evident of somebody that doesn’t understand fairly simple science. These aren’t scientists pitted against one another with competing theories designed to cancel the other out.

Lindsey is sick and tired of his fellow GOPers who are ‘deniers’ and deals with them severely…

What is it about the RWNJ’s? When faced with clear evidence that they’ve gotten hold of the wrong end of the stick, they always double down. Maybe it’s an extension of the G.W. Bush rule: never, ever admit that you made a mistake. But you’d think they’d at least be smart enough to dummy up.

See, the example you posted above is comparing apples to bananas:

A more proper example is that somebody goes to separate physicians with an headache, one diagnoses a brain tumor and the other a migraine due to stress but none of the two really can prove 100% of the diagnosis being correct. So what “somebody” should do, believe the first doctor and at the minimum undergo a lengthy barrage of chemotherapy or even invasive skull surgery or should he/she believe the second doctor and just pop a pill first?

That’s not a very good anology. This isn’t one doctor (read: scientist). It’s 97% of all doctors in the world. Thousands, if not tens of thousands, that are telling you that you have a brain tumor - and that’s an assessment based on decades of research on your head. Versus a handful of doctors that say you just have a migraine. And a lot of those saying that you only have a migraine are on the payroll of pharmaceutical companies that sell migraine medicine. Who do you believe?

And even that’s a bad analogy. Because in this scenario that you’ve first posited, you’re saying it has to be one or the other. You could very well have a brain tumor, and a temporary migraine. If you develop a migraine while you have a brain tumor, that doesn’t mean you get to ignore the brain tumor. Eventually the migraine may pass, and you’re back to a still bigger issue.

No, Puppies, his/hers is the right analogy. The scientists are not in disagreement about the long-term trend (warming/cancer); the freeze (/cold) is projected to be a short-term phenomenon. Honestly, are you just that pigheaded, or are you really as stupid as you sound? Normally I don’t bother with you, because you’re so very pathetic in your insistence on repeating familiar “arguments” so transparently bogus that my nephew saw through them when he was eight; but at this point you’re embarrassing yourself so thoroughly that it cries out for an intervention. Surely no adult can be this pitifully (there’s really only one word for it) stupid.
