Discussion: Libertarian VP Candidate Admits Defeat, Tells Voters To Pick Clinton Over Trump

Admits defeat? Yes. Don’t see much evidence of the other half of the headline, though.

Bill Weld is almost a parody of an old school republican. He was a great governor of Massachusetts. He basically just got bored with the job. But how did this guy run as a libertarian anything? From Wikipdia:

Weld was educated at Middlesex School. He graduated with an A.B. summa cum laude in classics from Harvard College in 1966, studied economics at University College, Oxford, and graduated with a J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1970.[7]

Whoa. Reality came knocking, and Mr. Weld answered the door.

As the ganja haze subsides in the Gary “Baked” Johnson campaign HQ, reality sets in that a President Drumpf would harsh their mellow, be a total bummer, and end the world as we know it.

Good god, a pol with some measure of honor on display…

I never understood and still don’t why Weld agreed to be Johnson’s running mate.

Either does he, apparently…

He tried to discuss the issue with Johnson before going to the press, but Johnson kept nodding off.

It MIGHT have been a brilliant move on his part. As Johnson’s VP, he is in a position to nuke GJ’s candidacy like nobody else.
Maybe he had this thought in the back of his mind all along.

Weld told his voters nothing about Clinton. He denounced Trump and thoroughly but didn’t go that far, didn’t even mention her name. The person who writes the headline and the person who writes the story ought to consult first.

Well saying you must stop trump and that voting for him wont help that, really doesn’t leave a lot of other options.

“Though Weld goes on to mention Trump by name, his comments could also describe Johnson, who captured headlines with his bumbling responses to foreign policy questions and odd interview antics.”

Exactly what I thought before I read the last paragraph.

OT but interesting…

Donald Trump Talks Like a Woman

And strange as it sounds, it might be one of the reasons he’s done as well as he has.

I’d rather not leave a quasi endorsement hanging out there with Clinton’s name unspoken. I’d prefer he’d said it loud and said it proud, “vote for Clinton in two weeks, let’s defeat trump.” Moreover, it still sounds like he and Johnson are not going anywhere before November 8.

“Gary and I will carry our message of fiscal responsibility, social inclusion and smaller government through November 8, and I hope that this election cycle will secure for the Libertarian Party a permanent place in our national political dialogue."

So with Pence and now Weld, we have two VP candidates who wearing “I’m With Stupid” t-shirts under those starched shirts and power ties. Weld must think Johnson is a complete doofus, which he appears to be. I think that if this makes Johnson lose a few votes to Hillary and/or Trump lose a few to Hillary or Johnson, Trump will be held under 40 percent of the vote. Landslide alert. But let’s keep pushing to the finish line and run up the score.

An opposing party’s VP candidate all but says that Johnson supporters should vote Clinton/Kaine.

Can this unprecedented presidential campaign get any more unprecedented?

I hope so on election day. :grinning:

Though this article is short in length, here’s a piece that the New Yorker did on Weld.
