“It is crucial that Trump and the next South Korean president strike up instant, positive chemistry in their first meeting…"
Koreans: strong cultural tradition favoring self-deprecating and non-confrontational interactions between peers, and valuing honor and mutual respect*.
Donald Trump: An ignorant and blustering buffoon, who only values dominance and whatever he thinks makes Trump more popular.
I wouldn’t count on instant, positive chemistry. To the extent South Korea remains our ally, it will be due to the Korean president and the Korean people bending over backwards to preserve the relationship.
*Not valid after 4th bottle of soju.
All the lead stories in the MSM yesterday was about the Yates/Clapper testimony … except FOX News, which covered the South Korean election.
It must be very disappointed that another anti-Comrade Cockholder candidate won.
Somebody at the AP appears to hate this guy a lot. When both the opponents who got only half as many votes have conceded, the candidate with millions more votes isn’t just claiming victory, he’s won. Also a bunch of tells in the rest of the article, where the idea of ratcheting down tensions with NK is treated as weird, and the idea of someone campaigning as a “strongman” seems perfectly reasonable.
