Discussion: Letter That Inspired Jack Kerouac's 'On The Road' Discovered

…they’re meth heads, no one listens to them.

One man’s junk, eh…

I read ‘On the Road’ last year along with his other works, which led me to explore Beat Culture, Ken Kesey & the Merry Pranksters and the Grateful Dead.

As a result, my friends and I created a 7-piece Indie Rock/Folk/Psychedelic collective called The Bonfire Set, and recently self-released our album ‘On the Road.’

Music nowadays is being mass-produced and force fed to the people of my generation, and we hope to change that-- continue what my heroes had left behind.

I ask for your support and to check our music out. Our music is free on BandCamp! Thank you.

Yours Truly,

Jamil Apostol

As much as i’d love to read it, myself, be careful what you wish for. Pardon the cliche of my gist, here, but some things are better left as sanctified aspects of our culture. Truth has a way of devouring, and obliterating legends that we love and enjoy. It is entirely possible that this document could let us all down by undermining the kharma we’d all assigned to Kerouac. Knowing what we know is wonderful. Believing what we all believe about Kerouac is also wonderful. Knowing too much can spoil the grace of our beliefs.

Still, publish the damned thing!!! Curiosity outweighs the caution of common sense!

I am skeptical about the document’s authenticity.

Band “Aztec Two-Step”, tune “The Persecution and Restoration of Dean Moriarity (On the Road)”.
