One of their own what… traitors?
“If somebody asked me if I would consider that, I would not say no,” he said.
Mike may have lost his bid right there – Trump will read it as begging.
I didn’t know Lee had his eyes on the presidency… why else would Little Marco want to get rid of him.
OMG. Trey “Benghazi” Gowdy on SCOTUS?!
tRUMP’S INTERVIEW QUESTION(S): " yOU WONT VOTE TO IMPEACH ME, rIGHT?
What a great idea! Although I don’t think Elizabeth Warren is really interested. Still, she might be tempted if der Furor were to ask nicely.
no - here’s his one question:
"if you found yourself having to decide a case that might involve a president who did some, shall we say, light treasonification, and that same flag molesting patriot may have helped you just a skosh in getting that lifetime gig you were craving, you wouldn’t get all harsh on that person and get all gavelly and hootin’ and hollerin’ about the constitution now would you?
AFAF…"
Trump won’t nominate Lee, because McConnell knows that Collins and Murkowski would vote no – they are SURE he’s an anti-Roe vote on the court. Worse, they can’t hide from that on the Senate floor.
Scott, in making the case for Gowdy, said the former prosecutor is so fair that he has angered both Democrats and Republicans.
“A guy who will call balls and strikes and not choose a side, even when he’s an elected member at this time in our nation’s history, that’s hard to find,” Scott said.
A guy who is so fair, and so interested in finding the truth that he kept the Banzai Benghazi investigation open years past its USE BY date. Nope, nothing political about Trey Gowdy at all. A great, great choice for SCotUS. /snark
You’re so cute when you’re all delusional like that.
What in the universe makes you think Susan Collins isn’t going to fold like an origami chrysanthemum? Look at the woman’s confirmation vote history – there is no Republican appointee so vile she won’t vote for him.
ETA:
Okay, she voted against Scott Pruitt, and that’s an existence proof. There are Trump nominees so vile she won’t vote for them. My question stands: what makes you think Mike Lee is a member of that class of Trump nominees?
Someone that’s easily swayed by money?
You know there is a reason why it’s been 70 years since a member of Congress served on the Court, it’s the exposure. Every speech, every piece of campaign material, every financial disclosure form, and every vote for a member of Congress is available to be scrutinized by the citizens.
As for poor Trey there has never been a Supreme Court Justice that went from the House to the Court, only senators.
I’m rooting for Louie Gohmert.
Republican Sen. Tim Scott is making a pitch for his best friend in Congress, Rep. Trey Gowdy, a fellow South Carolinian.
Holy shit, if this is even suggested then Gowdy’s decision to not run again needs to be looked into. If he knew beforehand that Justice Kennedy would be leaving, it completely explains his recent behavior.
Great minds think alike. I was just thinking, “What? No mention of Louie?!!”
And what about Nunes? Or Rohrabacher? Or Issa? So much talent, so few seats…
“Lee is championed by conservatives as a strict constitutionalist, he could face obstacles to winning the president’s favor. Chief among them is that he never backed Trump for president during the 2016 campaign.”
Haha! That wasn’t a good idea in retrospect, was it?
Sen Mike Lee is a fire-breathing lunatic which might stick in even Trump’s craw too.
Flattery will get you nowhere.
Can I assume he can’t vote for himself ?
Mike Lee is a seriously hateful creature who will do (is already doing) extraordinary damage to our national legacy of public lands.
Expect to lose natural places, the ability to access public lands (namely Bureau of Land Management), privatization of National Parks, elimination of national monuments (yep - Lee had LOTS to do with the loss of Grand Staircase/Escalante and Bears Ears), NEPA reviews/regulations, and fees for use. Loss of Federal oversight of (over) grazing, o/g leases at national parks/monuments, roadbuilding through parks/monuments, elimination of wilderness areas. Just to name a few of the likely consequences.
