Discussion: Lawmaker Tells Geraldo To Back Away From Protest: Media 'Incites People'

Discussion for article #235798

During Fox News’ “Hannity” Tuesday night, Geraldo Rivera interviewed state Senate Majority Leader Catherine Pugh from the middle of a crowd of protesters in Baltimore, who told Rivera that the media presence at the protests was not helpful.

Wow, a correspondent for Sean Hannity’s show! Geraldo has hit the big time!

“Cameras don’t incite people. Cameras don’t throw rocks. Cameras didn’t riot. Cameras didn’t loot. Cameras didn’t burn,” he said.

Cameras seem to make Sean Hannity do the stupidest things, day in and day out.

Back in the Fox News studio, Hannity told Pugh he disagreed.

“Cameras don’t incite people. Cameras don’t throw rocks. Cameras didn’t riot. Cameras didn’t loot. Cameras didn’t burn,” he said.

Gee, Mr. Hannity, do you think death by police brutality might “incite people?” You are a sad waste of skin, muscle and bones.

Sickening, faux and it’s whole cast of “THUGS” and “THUGETTES” feinting such concern.“BUCKET IT”.

Fox News: Not fair, not balanced, despicable.

Methinks this buffoon doesn’t understand what the word “incite” means.

I think what Hannity and lots of others are asking is, “why can’t these poor people be happy and respect their overlords? Why can’t the poors respect our property and our authority?”

I know this is totally wrong to say but if it’s me and anyone from fox or cnn is in the crowd I am chucking a brick at them. The media I believe is now firmly on the side of the 1% and are even more guilty of what is happening in this country since they control what and how things are viewed.

Pugh should have told Rivera and the Fox camera crew to move back because they’re not journalists. The people Rivera and Hannity are inciting are their audience.

It isn’t just Fox News, the very act of observing changes reality. If the cameras were turned off the people would go home.

Beyond the obvious wingnut stuff, Fox has helped accelerate the tabloid-ization of news. @When i was in Cleveland visiting relatives recently I noticed that the local Fox news station led with stories about violence…from Milwaukee and it was the usual forgettable stuff tat happens everyday some where.

CNN, which has always has been to thin on the ground to be a serious news organization has pounced on this kind of coverage to provide the filler they usually need when they can’t run hours of reruns of some grizzly breaking story.

I did not need to hear Hannity first thing in the morning (it’s 6:15 AM where I am). A very jarring experience I can tell you. Luckily I scrolled down swiftly and silenced his sorry ass.

I guess that Hannity has never seen people act like goof balls when they see a TV camera and see an opportunity to get in the background… Many times I’ve seen people crowd in front of a camera at anti-war demonstrations I’ve been to. During the Iranian revolution people would crowd in front of any available camera to shout “Death to America”" and when the TV camera was off (or they thought it was off) they would disperse. So what I’m saying is cameras certainly can incite a volatile crowd.

“…Rivera said. ‘I had an important story to tell standing there…’” and it wasn’t about the protestors or else he would have interviewed that protestor on the spot. What a missed opportunity.

Yes, that really is reprehensible of TPM. But typical. No one really seems to care about the product at TPM anymore.

After viewing the video, I don’t get why ANYone would agree to be interviewed by FOX. It was clear Geraldo had no interest in hearing what the community had to say - he was more concerned with the shops and not WHY people are angry. And this is not just this one incident, it’s seeing and hearing about countless others. People there feel POWERLESS and for a few brief moments while looting or burning, they maybe feel powerful. No, it’s not right to react like that. But understanding the frustration is the first step. But no, Geraldo was being his usual, condescending asshole-ish self.

That Geraldo could show his face there after once suggesting Trayvon deserved to be murdered because he was wearing a hoodie is amazing to me. They should have turned their back and ignored him. And even that would have been too good for the likes of him.

And in all this, not one concern over Freddy’s spine being severed. This, too, will be swept under the rug - justified because some jerks burned down a building and broke windows. Same as it ever was.

I certainly don’t hate TPM. After all I’m a Prime member. TPM rarely puts up a story with an auto play video in it. As opposed to CNN or HuffPost. I have a strong dislike of Hannity and unfortunately can recognize his voice and to me it’s quite unpleasant to me.
Were it not for TPM and their willingness to wade thru the turd bucket that is Fox News I would not be aware of the crap Fox spews… I think TPM does a service to us and I commend them.
